Canadian Military Admits To Using Covid Pandemic To Test Propaganda Techniques

From the Toronto Sun: The Canadian military admits to doing what every other government in the world has been doing without admitting it.

Canadian military leaders saw the pandemic as a unique opportunity to test out propaganda techniques on an unsuspecting public, a newly released Canadian Forces report concludes.

… The plan devised by the Canadian Joint Operations Command, also known as CJOC, relied on propaganda techniques similar to those employed during the Afghanistan war. The campaign called for “shaping” and “exploiting” information. CJOC claimed the information operations scheme was needed to head off civil disobedience by Canadians during the coronavirus pandemic and to bolster government messages about the pandemic.

The use of propaganda to shape public opinion around the preferred narrative of the ruling party has been obvious to anyone paying attention. The media invariably refer to the protest at the Capitol as an “insurrection.” Opposition to teaching racially divisive critical race theory is reported as “Republicans want to make it illegal to teach about slavery.” And the Biden administration and its media allies have gone full throttle with the absolutely false “Border Agents Horse-Whipped Haitians at the Border” narrative.

Operation Mockingbird” may or may not have existed as a CIA Black Op, but the deliberate manipulation of public opinion by administration and bureaucratic operatives through selective language, selective emphasis, and suppression of information harmful to the ruling party — and more and more often outright falsehoods — is a standard operating procedure.

Politicization of institutions is rampant worldwide because it works for the benefit of ruling elites. It’s Animal Farm and Brave New World rolled into one.

I’m still shocked by the successes of the propaganda war because it isn’t hard to figure out what is really going on. Lesson learned.

The UK released a report on this type of thing a year ago.  It specifically warned the government that they shouldnt use these techniques as it would be hard to put the genie back into the bottle was released.

They went and used the techniques anyway.

Why would they want to put the genie back in the bottle?

I think what happened is that people were accustomed to giving credence to people in charge, the authorities. Just like people believe their doctors: they must know what’s true! Fortunately, I began to develop my skeptical sense a while ago, but even so, I still get fooled.

Using propaganda to get people to get vaccinated, follow public health rules, and so on?  What’s wrong with that?

It’s not a political issue, or it shouldn’t be.

Some of us hold this quaint, old-fashioned notion that Government’s ought to play it straight with people. Yeah, I know, I’m an extremist.

And it’s a violation of international law, that states that people must give INFORMED consent to be asked to take anything into their body.  To trick or pressure into doing so people using propaganda and misinformation and disingenuous emotional appeals violates informed consent.

I hope they learned that they really stink at propaganda but do a lot to build public distrust of government.

I guess this is why all the propaganda used to incentivize people to pay taxes worked so well.

The rate at which everyone in power has burnt up their credit is amazing.

Sadly, so many people I’m surrounded with are OK with being lied to and manipulated, as long as it’s done by a Democrat. I can’t fathom why, but they feel it’s OK for Gov. Pritzker to be photographed inside, without a mask, for a campaign promo (done while we’re in a “state of emergency” fwiw) but glare at me when I’m standing outside without a mask. True story, that happened exactly one week ago. They just think it’s OK because he’s governor.

Somewhere, they clearly learned that people in authority are above the law. Until we start enforcing the truth — in our homes, in our schools, on the streets, at the ballot box  — that everyone from the police to the president is beneath the law, and therefore subject to it, we’re screwed.

Yup.  Propaganda is one of those things that just plain works, even when you see it coming.

What you allow in your ears will eventually come out your mouth.

I don’t follow Canadian politics so I’m not sure what kind of government they have – socialist? At any rate, I think it’s become more militant over the last few years – and seems to be spreading. Look at Australia! What is going on there??  These tactics have no place in free societies, especially the US. We are the only country with the founding documents that supposedly protect against these things. Boundaries are being exploited and I think it’s the tip of the iceberg.
