AOC on Caterers: Make Them Wear Masks

According to sources familiar with the matter, the 2021 Met Gala’s controversial “hybrid masking policy” represented an attempt by event planners to simultaneously protect invited guests from the coronavirus while reminding The Help that they are there not to speak but to be spoken to.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) expressed enthusiastic support for the masking compromise over an appetizer of foie gras entier: “It was either them or us. On the one hand, there’s the exigencies of the political class, celebrities, and contributors to The Atlantic who have verified Twitter accounts; on the other hand, there are these hopelessly unconnected kulaks on the catering team who don’t even live in Manhattan.” AOC then added, “Let them wear masks.”

The two-term representative then rang a bell while demanding a lobster toast with avocado and Espelette pepper.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) attempted to get ahead of potential criticism by announcing before the event that members of her coalition attending the gala will be going maskless out of solidarity with Hollywood A-listers. “We’d naturally prefer to wear our masks which are so comfortable and confer so much protection from the coronavirus,” said Pelosi, who then added, “however we will refrain from doing so out of solidarity to our friends in Hollywood, many of whom are currently without Netflix deals.”

When asked by a reporter to specify what she meant by “Hollywood,” Pelosi, who was born the year Gone with the Wind won Best Picture, said, “I’m referring to the likes of Billie Eilish and Kylie Jenner, not those filthy gaffers and key grips.” A member of the catering team contracted by the Met then proceeded to pronounce the in hors d’oeuvres when offering the Speaker a country pâté toast with pickled grapes, prompting the House Speaker to tell her to “Brush up your French – and pull up your mask up while you’re at it.”

Public health officials from Anthony Fauci to CDC director Rochelle Walensky called the new approach to masking a necessary step to contain the virus.

You know, I think you’re right.  Pelosi must have some burn scars from Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign . . .

Glenn Greenwald is also good to read on this topic:  “The Masking of the Servant Class

    The concluding paragraph:

Even with all of this deceit and manipulation, there is something uniquely disturbing — creepy even — about becoming accustomed to seeing political and cultural elites wallowing in luxury without masks, while those paid small wages to serve them in various ways are forced to keep cloth over their faces. It is a powerful symbol of the growing rot at the core of America’s cultural and social balkanization: a maskless elite attended to by a permanently faceless servant class. The country’s workers have long been faceless in a figurative sense, and now, thanks to extremely selective application of decisively unscientific COVID restrictions, that condition has become literal.

The article also contains a link to a video of Nancy Pelosi’s meeting with rich, maskless donors while being attended to by masked servants.

Wouldn’t be surprised if she was a camp follower for Sherman’s troops…
