The Best and Worst of Sports

tennis over footballThursday, September 9, 2021, showed both the best and worst of professional sports. The NFL bullied and canceled a Black woman for daring to talk back and assert religious and bodily liberty over the lab-coat left’s lies. At the same time, the U.S. Open tennis tournament counter-programmed the NFL season opener with a double feature Cinderella story. In the end, there was far more entertainment value in the British and Canadian teen women of color on the Arthur Ashe Court than there was on some woke gridiron performance.

The NFL has gone defiantly woke, spitting in the face of American fans with every player’s uniform plastered with anti-American slogans, smearing us all as an irredeemably racist country. Mark Davis, DFW area Salem Radio host and Cowboys fan denounced the NFL’s finger-wagging smear of the fans. He then walked the walk by live-tweeting the wonderful tennis being played by young women who are committed to excellence, not ideology.

The NFL sought to misdirect by using an authentic Black woman’s face and voice as the front for their attack on America. The misdirection would run: how could anyone criticize the woke, hectoring opening ceremony, how dare you attack the National Anthem? The truth is that the NFL announced it was adding the “Black National Anthem” for leftist racial politics reasons:

The NFL has announced it will play the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” before each game in the 2021-22 season as part of a $250 million investment towards social justice.

The league will also continue many of the social justice initiatives implemented last season, including featuring messages of antiracism and unity on helmets and the field, and communicating to fans through signage and public service announcements, per reports by Front Office Sports.

Then the Black woman got uppity. Victory Boyd, a wonderfully talented young singer, is also a committed Christian and a vaccine skeptic, taking the side of real science against the lab coat left’s lies of “pandemic science.” She was supposed to perform in the wide-open air of an NFL stadium, she even offered to perform virtually. No go. Roger Goodell, an elite White male racist, demanded the young Black woman bow before him and live the lies of the murderous fake scientist Fraudci.

Victory Boyd refused and posted a wonderful, patriotic performance of the American national anthem along with a brief, very mature call to liberty.

After being canceled for the NFL to perform the Anthem at the season opening game because of my vaccination status, I decided to sing anyways. Except this time not for the theatrics of a football game.. this time I sang for America. To remind her who she is… the land of the free and the home of the brave. This is dedicated to anyone that has taken a stand for freedom. I stand with you.

If we really want to win the cold civil war, we need to support such thoughtful courage. Oh, and replacing Victory Boyd with Michelle Williams, a former member of the girl band Destiny’s Child does not get the racist NFL leadership off the hook at all. They picked a corporate music establishment member who straightens her hair, to look more acceptable in the dominant White culture, over a woman wearing her hair naturally. The politics of black women’s hair are a real thing, as you probably peripherally know or perceive. There is a long-standing cultural bias against natural hair styles for women of black African descent. The latest study of this bias was in the summer of 2020, the same time the NFL doubled down on corporate wokeness. Ironically, the study was “The Natural Hair Bias in Job Recruitment.” The NFL is clearly racist from the top, cloaking its bigotry in “anti-racism,” so you have a clear choice between funding and supporting bigotry or punishing and rejecting it with your dollars and viewership.

Michelle Williams

The U.S. Open put on a true Cinderella double feature, directly against the first and second half of the NFL opener. Both semifinals featured a teen girl, unseeded, one of whom had to qualify, to play into the U.S. Open. Both matches were played on the premier court, Arthur Ashe Stadium, named after the first U.S. Open men’s singles winner of the Open era, when pros started playing along with amateurs. The stadium was built and dedicated to Arthur Ashe shortly after his death in the 1990s. It moved the existing Louis Armstrong Stadium, named for the famous jazz musician who had lived nearby, into second court status.

The first match featured a 19-year-old Canadian who had battled past a string of seeded opponents. It was an epic three-set match, in which Leylah Fernandez, ranked 73 in the world, refused to lose her nerve.

The cherry on top: Fernandez knocked Naomi Osaka out of the U.S. Open in the third round. Osaka, the defending champion, was seeded third and wore BLM themed masks on court at the 2020 U.S. Open. Mind you, she never wore the name of a truly innocent Black child gunned down on American city streets because the radical left controlled Democrats were making streets and homes safer for gang members.

Then came the second match, starting after 10 pm East Coast time. Emma Raducanu, an 18-year-old Brit, was ranked 150. She smoked her older 18th seeded Greek opponent for the first five games of the first set. Finally, Sakkari held serve in the sixth game. Emma was unfazed, holding serve to close out the set, then battled through the second set, getting into the finals as the first-ever woman to play her way into the tournament and then get to the finals. So, it will be a battle of two Cinderellas, Canada versus the United Kingdom. and a great Saturday of the best sports.

Ah yes, and this is the same NFL that would not permit Tennessee Titans linebacker Avery Williamson to wear specially-designed patriotic cleats for his game on 9/11/16.

(Not to mention denying the Dallas Cowboys request to wear decals honoring fallen members of the Dallas Police Department in the same year.)

Some things never change; that includes Roger Goddell.

May I put in my expected plug for professional squash?  If you have ever watched a pro squash match, you will never watch tennis again, it will simply be too boring (why do most pro tennis players just watch the ball go by, instead of running to hit it?).

The fans and the players are very polite, and the action is very exciting.  Zero politics.

    The football game was great.

I wonder if, 100+ years ago, when they were inventing tennis, that if they knew 6’4″ guys would be blasting the ball at 136 mph, that they would have made the net a few inches higher.

It’s not just her vaxx status, it’s all of this combined. Dak Prescott isn’t vaxxed, many players aren’t. Neither are an unknown number of the fans and the stadium didn’t require it. She’s just not the right kind of black.

    The football game was great.

Last Sunday on CBS they had Professional Bull riding followed by the American Cornhole League. Without the NFL, we have to pretend cornhole is serious sport.

I enjoyed watching Thursday’s game. Try as he might, not even Roger Goodell can ruin football for me.

As for the anthem singer, the NFL has unvaccinated players, they just make them get tested every day. Couldn’t you test the singer as well? And in a stadium with 70,000 people, do you really know who might be carrying the virus?

Yes. It was a racist power play.

The irony is that there is a select list of “approved” slogans; players aren’t allowed to come up with their own.
