Where Is the Outrage from the Right?

Over at Powerline, David and Daniel Greenfield have an article: Where is the Outrage?

It opens strong:

Only one man lost his job over Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller challenged Biden’s incompetent and spineless Joint Chiefs of Staff to take responsibility for their dereliction of duty that led directly to the catastrophe in Afghanistan. Taking responsibility meant resigning. Biden’s military men immediately smeared him as mentally ill and forced him out of the Marines.

For four years, conservatives of a certain stripe cheered and encouraged the military to attack Trump. They considered it part of the normal constitutional order. Now, when a solider dares to criticize Biden for…

Biden is directly responsible for the worst, most humiliating, most dangerous – yet completely avoidable – defeat in the history of American warfare.

…those same conservatives have nothing to say about this man being fired, or, worse, they cheer it on, as the rules get applied to him, while they cheered on others not having the rules apply to them.

The article goes on to attack GOP leadership for their spinelessness. They sure don’t fight for anything of value. I understand why: They never meant it. They are in it for the perks and don’t care about anything as long as they get their goodies.

What I cannot understand, are rank and file Republicans who buy into this nonsense. They can claim to be for America, but it is crap. Any conservative who voted for Biden, who frankly, could not be doing more damage to America than if he were an agent for Xi, can only win back trust if he or she is willing to get outraged at Biden as they were at Trump and his mean tweets.

LOL. Embrace the power of AND.

My peeps say that they have to force GDP + inflation in a way that creates negative 12% real interest rates. That is the only way society as we know it is going to hold together. Really neat system. lol

It’ll be instructive, going forward, to find out how many of those evacuated were actually American citizens, or green-card holders, or those with SIVs or those who have a legitimate claim to have helped the allies over the past 20 years.  Given that one of today’s headlines (see Telegraph or Guardian) is that only one of the 125 embassy guards who were promised help to leave actually made it to the UK, one has to wonder.  Likely  (it seems to me) many of those evacuated simply had the most physical strength or determination to make it past the barricades, while trampling over those who might have been more deserving.  Thanks, Joe Biden.

Mullin Meijer voted to impeach Trump.

Edited — I was thinking of Meijer.  I was not aware of Mullin’s trip, and thought this was a reference to [Meijer].  A pologize for the mistake, and I am grateful to Ricochetti who set me straight.  Thanks!

Leaving this here so people reading later don’t think that everbody mis-quoted me.

Well, since Xi Biden left a great many behind, I don’t yet know that it is a successful evacuation.

Doesn’t seem like it so far. Lots of Americans, partner forces, war material, and exploitable technology/ intelligence left behind. I am sure our adverseries will pay a pretty penny for it.

I guess the state department is relying on the word on the Taliban to let our people go.

One generally doesn’t rely on one’s enemies for success.

    Fox News headline this hour:

Milley says civil war in Afghanistan ‘likely’ after US withdrawal, could lead to ‘reconstitution of al Qaeda’

From the No Sh*t, Sherlock! file. Golly, it’s almost like these things are somehow related. Hey, genius maybe you could have done something about that or at least resigned when told you couldn’t. The man is either a coward or an idiot or both.

My guess is that the number of Americans and SIV holders are lower than the administration has reported.  The chaos being responsible for so many old men with child brides looks like just one more unintended screw up.  But when it’s number 8 or 10 on the list, it’s probably as unintended as surrendering Bagram was and evacuating from an unsecurable airport was, and evacuating the military before the civilians was.  I think it’s crazy to think that we wanted to import a hundred thousand uncivilized Afghans who are unaffiliated with the US, rather than those who worked with and supported us, but this too could have been prevented even after the S hit the Fan.

I think he is disastrously wrong in calling this a sucess. Hir inability to comprehend history means h cannot understand the present.

Anyone who thinks the war of 1812 was just a political mistake does not understand the realities of war

It is like the old days, when McReynolds used to argue we should not have fought the Civil war or entered into WWII.

Whenever any political issue comes up and there’s a vote on it, one side wins, the other loses. If there’s ever going to be any change, some of the people on the original winning side need to switch to the losers’ side.

I don’t think it matters when it comes to winning people to my side what side they were on before. I might not vote for them, but I’m happy for their support.

I wouldn’t vote for Mullin. And I remain upset about the impeachment.

But I want to see Biden removed from office. I’ll take all the help I can get.

Postscript: See Drew’s later comment 51. I didn’t realize that BDB was thinking Mullin was Meijer. Thank you, Drew. So Mullin is okay.

Scheller’s claim that this was the worst and most humiliating defeat in US history lacks perspective.

If you’re trying to take over for Jen Psaki when she leaves next year, this is a good way to bolster your resumé.

Actually no. That equipment argument is badly flawed and a trap for the right and critics of the left/DNC/deep state. I’m muddling through writing a detailed post, but here is the essence:

    1. The Taliban 1.0 was BETTER armed, with heavier armor, actual functioning Soviet tanks, and more artillery left over from the communist puppet government the Soviets abandoned, leaving Soviet built equipment for the Afghan government. Today they have a pathetic remnant of a single tank battalion and a set of light armored U.S. equipment that will fail far faster than the old Soviet stuff.
    2. The Afghan Air Force flew themselves and as many working aircraft as possible (hopefully loaded with their families) across the northern border. Those aircraft have been confirmed parked on an airfield in Tajikistan, and have since been relocated to other locations.
    3. Those ANA aircraft left behind at Kabul were disabled by the U.S. Army before final withdrawal. This was confirmed by the Taliban complaining and saying we had no right to do so. Further, a portion of U.S. built ANA aircraft left behind were already deadlined for battle damage or mechanical failures that required the contractors we had already evacuated in June, helping accelerate the collapse by effectively throttling Afghan air support for ANA commando units.
    4. The rest of the stuff we left is all much more maintenance sensitive than Soviet/Chinese gear. There will be no replacement parts. There is no maintenance support.
    5. There is no special intelligence value in the aircraft or army gear after decades of fielding.

All of this is a massive distraction from the real catastrophe, the failure to destroy the massive bio-metric tagged database of everyone who ever did us a solid or worked for any of the international partners over the past 20 years. Now the Taliban has the ability to target anyone who might have been a human intelligence source going forward.

Meanwhile we are treated to such sad sights as Victor Davis Hanson making an old fool of himself by pronouncing this the worse loss of equipment by an army in history. Republic of Vietnam army and air force anyone? 1975? History? America has been here before.
