This Is My Hill: Saving the War Dogs of Afghanistan Abandoned by Biden

Who does that? Who leaves animals behind to starve to death in locked cages at Bagram Air Field? To what depth of inhuman, subhuman, amoral depravity and cruelty have we finally descended to have done this to helpless (locked! in cages!) animals who were also very special American allies—they were the War Dogs of Afghanistan!

Afghanistan Military Dogs Left Behind As NonProfit ...

I am writing this as a cry from the heart— like so many of us, I have had dogs as pets (Mark, my Boxer; Fritz, my Doberman, and others) and I have been sickened to the very core of my being that those entrusted with the faithful execution of our Laws and defense of our Constitution have abandoned everything there — including their fellow Americans, American friends, and allies and those who helped us unconditionally with total dedication, day in and day out— our War Dogs.

Conan, the Belgian Malinois who took part in the Syria raid that killed ISIS leader Baghdadi.

My cry for help is this: I am pleading for any information of all resources which may be known by friends and colleagues to identify sites, locations, mailing addresses, P.O. Boxes, or any other modes of contact, to which we may send material support to anyone who can get to these poor animals, who gave their heart and soul to the defense of America, only to be cast aside like so much unused military equipment. Sadly, there is a disgraceful precedent for this kind of cruelty as it occurred once before in the 1975 collapse in Vietnam, when approximately 4,000 dogs were abandoned.

There is the old idea about choosing the “hill” which one is “ready to die on.” Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller gave us a most powerful lesson on how that is done in throwing his Silver Cluster on the table with a demand for accountability.

With due acknowledgment of the realities of the limitations of age and the constraints that cursed condition imposes, this is my hill, and I am ready to send whatever meager funds I can send in support of this noble (truly!) cause. I am also ready to get on the next flight out of Pensacola to catch whatever War Dog Express is headed for that Stone Age hell hole to recover our real American allies.

Please, if you know of resources dedicated to this purpose, publish it so the world will know about it.

Whoever did this cannot be a true American.

Americans should never do this to animals.

We are Americans!

We should never leave our comrades on the field.

Never!

There is, I guess, a moral argument for caring more for the humans Biden has left behind in Afghanistan. But our hearts won’t go there, will they? We are especially appalled and horrified at cruelty inflicted on animals and children because they are helpless and innocent. Most of us are trying to shut out of our minds the suffering these poor animals will endure. But suffer they will. A particularly gruesome punctuation to the most shameful string of decisions ever made by a United States President.

What kind of administration does this?  One that’s heartless, cruel, and uncaring.  There was plenty of time to get animals out too, until Biden made the decision to cut and run . . .

I am in such a rage I don’t know how to express myself. I feel like draping my windows and patio door with black cloth. I have taken down my flags both american and Trump.

Muslims hate dogs, and if they get the chance will torture and mutilate all the dogs left behind. Even in the open here in exUSA, if they are cab drivers, will refuse at times to pick up people with Seeing Eye dogs.

I know I am rambling but the shock of seeing what has happened to our country, that I actually lived long enough to see traitors in our government destroy us.

Nobody is saying care about the dogd and don’t care about the humans. @jimgeorge is saying care about the dogs too. Just as Lileks was yesterday.

I hope to god that these dogs were not abandoned left locked in their crates on a runway somewhere, as shown in that picture. That would be insane.

Here is a valuable resource, published by SPCA International and carrying news, almost all of which is anywhere from depressing to severely depressing, about the Kabul Small Animal Rescue organization, which apparently had paid for a charter aircraft to get themselves and all of their animals out of Kabul but the government, primarily the CDC (surely one of the most sinister agencies ever created in our history), would not permit the animals to be transported out of the “country” or whatever we’re supposed to call that pile of rocks and sand. It can be accessed here, and contains the names of a few organizations who are trying to get as many animals out of Kabul as they possibly can. They include:

    War Paws,

    Marley’s Mutts,

    Animal Wellness Action and

    Puppy Rescue Mission

I will share further information as I unearth it. There is a twitter tag (I know-I am quite sure I hate Twitter just as much as you do, but this is potentially important information) — #NoPawsLeftBehind –which also has some good information from other organizations, such as PETA. I never in my imagination thought I would be touting that particular organization, but there it is.

If anyone else finds some good resources, please let us know.

    God Bless America!

I made the best decision I could have with the information before me at the time of the election.  I addressed this in detail in a post two days ago, titled Apologies owed by (a) Biden and (b) Trump Voters.

    https://ricochet.com/1038929/apologies-owed-by-a-biden-and-b-trump-voters/.

One other quick point, it would be inaccurate to refer to “your contemptible Lincoln Project.”  After a number of my fellow Ricochetti pointed out their objections to The Lincoln Project, I switched to supporting “Republican Voters Against Trump” a wholly different group.

    Respectfully, Gary

It isn’t entirely clear from the article that Jim posted that this statement is true.  If these poor dogs were released into the airport to fend for themselves and were, in fact, service dogs that were now under the care of KSAR, then our shame has been magnified 1000X.

Despite the Pentagon’s carefully parsed denial, a report from Kabul Small Animal Rescue (KSAR), indicates that the animals were denied boarding on military aircraft and the private charter aircrafts that were arranged to transport the animals were never granted access to the airport.

Now, according to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International (SPCAI), many of the working dogs who were denied entry on the military planes have been released into the Kabul airport. An update from the group reads: “Most of the KSAR dogs had to be released into the airport on August 30 as the airport was evacuated — turning once rescued shelter dogs into homeless strays. They were not given access to the flight we had secured to transport them out of the country.”

The update said it is not clear how many dogs were released or whether the U.S. military was able to evacuate any of the 46 working dogs that had been under the care of KSAR when the troops left.”

Whoever is in charge of these dogs, I hope they don’t hand them over to hardcore Muslims, who consider dogs (or their saliva, some theologians say) ritually ‘impure.”  Google is full of articles about how Muslims should cleanse themselves after touching a dog (or its saliva). “Wash the spot seven times. . . .”

Muslims are forbidden to keep dogs as pets and Muslims don’t like to enter a house where a dog lives.  If a muslim pushes back and does keep a dog as a pet, the dog must never come into the house.

    Muslims don’t treat dogs well.

If they are our dogs, let’s get them home!

Please carefully investigate the organizations that you give your money to.  My daughter, who is on active duty, said that they were warned in a recent briefing that there were some imposters who are trying to fundraise on this issue, using photographs etc to tug at your heartstrings but actually have no access or history of accomplishing rescues such as this.

This response is not directly related to your comment, as it does not directly address the question whether the military got all the War Dogs, or service dogs, under the control of the US Military, out of Kabul. It does, however, raise a question of credibility of our vaunted Military spokesmen and it is based on these two statements:

“Despite an ongoing complicated and dangerous retrograde mission, U.S. forces went to great lengths to assist the Kabul Small Animal Rescue as much as possible.”

This is a statement by a Pentagon spokesman, as reported here in The Sun (UK).

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recently enacted policy suspending transports of dogs from Afghanistan and more than 100 other nations into the U.S., was another terrible impediment, despite our negotiations and pleadings. We applied for an Emergency Exemption so that Charlotte and the dogs could get out on our chartered flight this week. But the CDC’s adherence to its import policy during this time of crisis put animals and people at risk. We are alarmed that leaders at the CDC are not bringing a more balanced perspective to the importation of dogs, especially after the U.S. House of Representatives rebuked CDC on this issue and passed an amendment to restore a proper screening process.

This entire situation is a reminder that when governments, including the United States, don’t recognize the human connection to animals, they put people at risk. If Charlotte and her staff had been allowed to take their animals – with the support of private animal rescue groups that had paid for and organized a charter flight – they’d be safe, and so would the animals. Now she’s still in Kabul, desperately working to bring these animals into a safer space.

This is from the “Urgent Update” published by the SPCAI, linked in my comment #8, indicating that a number of dogs under the control of the KSAR were ordered – by representatives of our government and apparently specifically by the outrageous CDC – to be turned loose on the Kabul Airport property, thus becoming homeless dogs at the mercy of radical Islamist terrorists  after being cared for in a proper manner as rescue dogs.

It is clear both accounts cannot be true. After the last 5 years, and the last 7 months specifically, I have reached the point where I do not believe a single word the Pentagon, under the “leadership” of the execrable Lloyd Austin, has to say, so that’s where my vote is.

I am continuing my research into the other point and will report back when I have a more definitive answer, if, indeed, under the bizarre circumstances of the last few weeks, there is any such thing to find.

    Sincerely, Jim

To correct erroneous reports, the U.S. Military did not leave any dogs in cages at Hamid Karzai International Airport, including the reported military working dogs. Photos circulating online were animals under the care of the Kabul Small Animal Rescue, not dogs under our care.

The fates of the dogs will not be good in Muslim hands.  Here are a couple of Hadiths on keeping dogs:

“The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: ‘Whoever keeps a dog, his good deeds will decrease every day by one qeeraat [a unit of measurement], unless it is a dog for farming or herding.’ In another report, it is said: ‘ …unless it is a dog for herding sheep, farming or hunting.'”—Bukhari Sharif

“The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: ‘Angels do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or an animate picture.'”—Bukhari Sharif

There is also a story about Mohammed slaughtering all the dogs in a particular town.

    From Muslim #5248

Maimuna reported that one morning Allah’s Messenger was silent with grief. Maimuna said: Allah’s Messenger, I find a change in your mood today. Allah’s Messenger said: Gabriel had promised me that he would meet me tonight, but he did not meet me. By Allah, he never broke his promises, and Allah’s Messenger spent the day in this sad mood. Then it occurred to him that there had been a puppy under their cot. He commanded and it was turned out. He then took some water in his hand and sprinkled it at that place. When it was evening Gabriel met him and he said to him: You promised me that you would meet me the previous night. He said: Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. Then on that very morning he commanded the killing of the dogs until he announced that the dog kept for the orchards should also be killed, but he spared the dog meant for the protection of extensive fields or big gardens.

Thank you. I appreciate and respect your kind observation. You may very well be correct. I say the following not in amelioration of the severity with which I spoke but as to what I perceive to be a general observation applicable to many Americans at this present moment: the events which this Administration have brought down upon us have caused many of us to wonder-seriously, perhaps for the first time in our lives- whether, to borrow from Mr. Lincoln, ” [this] nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure” the day in and day out attacks on the very foundations of our Republic.

    SNIP

Thank you for this report. One problem with the military service dog situation is that few acting as the Fourth Estate are believable. (The SPCAI sounds believable to me.)

Of course some Americans are of the belief that if the Mainstream, Legacy News People chortle the line that the dogs were never allowed access to thee airport, then that is the end of the matter.

But what does that mean? Is it not just as egregious a violation of American values if the dogs were in their crates outside the air field, in the smothering 118 degree weather? And no one had authority to get them into the air field and aboard the planes?  And then they were left behind?

What do you wanna bet  if someone had stated these were dogs belonging to members of a sub set of Islamic culture, the dogs would have been given first class treatment!

Our entire system of American values has been turned topsy turvy. Between CRT & the newly sprung worship of all things relating to the Great God COVID, the qualities that made our nation great are being shut down.

There has been a wildfire in Lake Tahoe region raging out of control for days. 13 members of a  specially trained  team of experienced fire fighters were not allowed to fight  the fire as “they tested positive for COVID.”

Heavens to betsy, a mango and a goat have tested positive. The tests are in existence only because they made a very  manageable illness into an “epidemic” that supposedly killed over 550,000 Americans.

We must return to the actual “can do” philosophy that made America what it is, and not allow ourselves to become people ticking off boxes to show their allegiance to Deadening Bureaucracy.
