The Delta Variant Just Got Serious

Politico wants you to know that while you may be distracted by Afghans handing their babies over razor wire to get them to safety, illegal immigrants crushing the border, and China standing poised to invade Taiwan… you shouldn’t forget that there are real crises in the world. Real crises that are hurting real people.

The bashing of former President Barack Obama’s bash is having a chilling effect on the D.C. party scene as (especially Democratic) pols and their staffers scramble to figure out when and where — or even if — they can party again.

You see, a few weeks ago, the 44th president threw himself an epic birthday bash. When some people pointed out that there was a certain Marie Antoinette quality to throwing lavish birthday bash while the prevailing narrative was “Covid is resurging and will kill you unless you stay home with four masks on! And the vaccines totally work but you should still wear a mask and isolate yourself because maybe they don’t and anyway, we’ll probably be locking down again!”

The Obamas resentfully (and supposedly) trimmed the guest list after word got out. They put a media lid on their guests, but some pics and vids leaked out of partygoers — indoors, crowded together, and maskless — breaking all the rules the leftist elite have insisted the rest of us must follow. This was excused by media sycophants on the basis that Obama and his guests were too “sophisticated” to become infected with Covid. And besides, if anyone got sick surely they could be cured by touching the hem of his garment.

But the aftermath of the party turned into kind of a “super-spreader event,” with a large spike in local Covid cases, and the “optics” (i.e. facts that make the political elite look bad) were not good. And sadly, tragically, this has given sadfeels to the DC party scene.

“Who wants to throw a party right now?” said JOHN ARUNDEL, former associate publisher of Washington Life magazine and managing director of Perdicus Communications. “The optics of throwing the party or being at the party, it can be chilling.”

Chilling! Like the Champagne and oysters they won’t be eating now.

Just weeks ago, D.C. looked like it was back. The French, Italian and British embassies marked the return to life by opening their residences to hundreds of guests with Champagne and oysters.

The political class lives differently than we do.

“What we could do six weeks ago, we can’t do now,” said Democratic strategist ADRIENNE ELROD, the director of surrogate strategy for JOE BIDEN’s 2020 campaign. “We have to be so cognizant because Republicans are looking for any reason to call us hypocrites or to call us liars.”

Wait, you want to hold the same kind of parties you are telling the public are too dangerous for ordinary people, and you’re worried that people might call you hypocrites for that? Here, let me express my heartfelt sympathies.

Wow. If ever there was a case of saying out loud the thing you are supposed to be just thinking, it is this. Who is the miscreant who wrote this story? I’m sure the other cloud-dwellers are whacking him over the head with their artisan baguettes.

Great the problem is not that they are liars and doing what they say should not be done, the problem is that is will cause “Republicans to Pounce”

COVID-19 got really real for me on Wednesday when I tested positive. I have had 2 Pfizer vaccines, so I am guessing that I have the Delta variant that broke through.

I have been getting lots of sleep, and am pushing liquids. Right now, even if you have had both vaccines, you should likely be a bit leery of public gatherings.
