AZ Dem State Senator Arrested for Sexual Misconduct with Minor (Updated)

State Senator Tony Navarrete (D–AZ) with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 2019.

Arizona State Senator Tony Navarrete was arrested Thursday on three counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one count of molestation of a child. Phoenix Police received a report on Wednesday and interviewed a juvenile victim and witnesses. The suspected crime occurred in 2019.

“We are aware one of our members has been arrested and are awaiting further details and for law enforcement to do its job,” Arizona Senate Democrats said in a statement. “We will not have further comment at this time.”

Navarrete, 35, was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2016 and to the state Senate in 2018. He co-founded the legislature’s LGBT Caucus and serves as the deputy director of Promise Arizona, a progressive political nonprofit.

The Democrat made local news Wednesday after he confirmed a positive COVID test despite vaccination.

Navarrete opposed a 2020 bill to restrict sex education in grades K-8. The measure would have forbidden schools from providing any instruction that “normalize(s) sexual conduct between minors or sexual conduct with a minor” or “suggest(s) that any type of sexual conduct between minors is safe or without risk.” He also voted to repeal Arizona’s previous sex education law that prohibited teaching LGBTQ issues.

The legislator was considered a “rising star” in the state party and was expected to run for State Treasurer in 2022. Navarrete’s social media feeds highlight his meetings with national progressive leaders such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Police have released no further information at this time due to the sensitivity of the issues and the privacy of the juvenile accuser.

Update (7 p.m. ET): At a hearing Friday afternoon, State Sen. Tony Navarrete was charged with five counts of sexual conduct with a minor, child molestation, and attempted sexual conduct with a minor. If convicted on all counts, he faces a mandatory sentence of 49 years in prison. The alleged crimes occurred over several years, according to the victim., beginning when the boy was 12 to 13 years old.

Detectives had the boy call Sen. Navarrete as they monitored the call. According to the report, Navarrete apologized, and is quoted as saying, “I regret any bad actions. He also “told the victim he was not well” and that he “has to live with [this] the rest of his life.”

Police arrested the state senator at his home less than four hours after that phone call.

I suppose if you’re junior enough, there are costs to behaving like a powerful Democrat.

Are the photos implying guilt by association? Those shown share terrible ideas but maybe not pedophillia.

The photos show the trajectory of his once rising star in the D. Party. This wasn’t a fringe guy like MG in the R party with her “conspiracy theories.” This guy was embraced (with his policy fights) and being promoted in the caucus.

I agree with @Stina here. I wouldn’t be as charitable however. The powerful & Bourgeoise in this country that are pedophiles appear to be clearly drawn to one of the two major political parties in the US.

OK, so if the infamous “Q-Annon” is not correct in it’s charachterization of the Left, how should we on the Right charachterize these continued, accumulated instances of the Left with pedophilia, pederasty and sex trafficing?  Will continued instances like this and our revulsion of scum like this be brushed aside as anectdotal? Would mandatory minimums and ‘Three Strike’ Laws be mocked as Slippery Slope overreactions or will this be sanctioned practice within a decade like gay marriage, tranny maddness and other pathologies?

I almost said the same thing. What people don’t get is, Alex Jones gets just enough right about what the ruling class is going to do that he has credibility with just enough people that he isn’t going away. The ruling class has gone downhill since World War II and everybody is paying the price.

Nobody knows where Epstein got all of his money. He wasn’t prosecuted properly the first time. He had to be doing something for the government.

Jon Gabriel, Ed.: State Sen. Tony Navarrete was charged with five counts of sexual conduct

Tony should have moved to Delaware.  Read below, it is nothing to sniff at.

But here’s the really disturbing thing. While the age of consent in Delaware was 7 in the nineteenth century, it actually continued on in the state until the mid 1960’s.
