Poor Al Gore

I’ve got no brief for Al Gore and I’m sure you don’t either, Ricochet readers, but this one just doesn’t have the ring of truth–and very much has the ring of “mentally unstable gold-digger.” There are more than enough legitimate reasons to laugh at the man without invoking a Portland masseuse and “unwanted sexual contact” (a phrase that when applied to Al Gore is surely redundant). Ricochet men, you may want to consider how easily this could happen to you–if you have money and a reputation you’d like to protect–before you laugh.

That said, it’s highly unlikely to happen to me, and it’s funny as hell, so I’m really going to enjoy this one. If you’re on Twitter, check #Algoresexrequests on trending topics. Goodness, that’s funny! You’ll want to follow @Gormogons, in particular. Oh, and while you stop by to check that out, make sure to tell all your followers to follow @Ricochet. It’s really important that you do that, because that way we’ll have more followers.*

*******

*This request was inspired by the now-legendary Xerox study, which showed that people are more likely to do what you ask if you use the word “because” when asking, no matter how meaningless the argument that follows. So, e.g., you’re in line waiting for the photocopier. You say to the person before you, “Excuse me, may I cut ahead of you?” He will be much more likely to agree if you add, “because I need to make copies.” So go on: Tell them to follow @Ricochet because then we’ll have more followers.

Somehow, I sense you are poking a bit of fun at us old timers. But, can I chuckle just a little at Al Gore, because I have just a little bit of money and a small reputation to protect?

Who knows, maybe it’s made up, but I think the detail about his need to release his “second chakra” is a laugh riot. Looked up the whole chakra business, and the piece I read said women’s sexual energy emanates from the second chakra, but from men it’s the first chakra, and that this is the reason men & women experience it differently. Especially for those who closely follow the climate debate, Gore has a reputation for getting a lot of really basic stuff wrong, like overstating the temperature of the Earth’s core by a few orders of magnitude to make geothermal seem more attractive. It would be very amusing if it turns out he even managed to get his chakras all mixed up.

Fortunately, being mediocre, unattractive, not rich, and decidedly unfamous/undistinguished, I am immune from such embarrassments.

Of course, if you don’t undress and ask a female to come into your hotel room, it is a lot harder to be victimized. The evangelist Billy Graham had a policy that he was never in any room with any woman other than his wife or daughters unless others were there and the door was left open. Period.

I never have heard of any accusations about him; is it possible that he had a good idea there?
