What Would You Do?

For the past few years, amazing it has been that long, Ricochet has proven quite the experience. I’ve had opportunities to exchange opinions with, to argue and debate with individuals who in the normal course of events it is rather unlikely I would have ever met.

Suppose you were given an announcement that Mr. Long and Robinson could no longer maintain the current state of affairs and that this forum was soon to be scrapped. At this late date, what is most worth preserving? Would you …

Start a thread asking for Everyone’s email. Stat!

Then I would ask where at are They hanging?

I have asked for Plan B ’round Here before, but no answer.

  2. Nanda Panjandrum

I surely would do both, Roberto – and you’d be on my outside contacts list, for certain!

  3. Whiskey Sam

If it were ever announced, at minimum someone would throw up a simple message board on short notice just so those who so chose could stay in touch.

  4. Arahant

    I’ve always been easily traceable.

I think you’re on to something here.

In that case the PIT is ahead of the curve. Is there value in something broader being considered?

Life comes and goes and none of us will be remembered including Mr Long and Mr Robinson.   I lost my favorite articles and was initially bummed.   Then I realized nobody would ever care anyway so it just doesn’t matter.

If I die tonight there will be 500 crying souls and an article in the paper.    If I die in 40 years I’ll have a few family members at my funeral and hopefully a couple fishing buddies. Nobody will remember the thousands of lives I affected in medicine.   Nobody will remember whatever silly things I wrote.  My kids will still love me though and that is about all I care about.

Geez. I want You on My side.

For anyone interested in maintaining contact if Ricochet hits a snag, please consider registering at Ricochetmeetup.com in the “Stay in Touch” box.  I have collected a modest list of email addresses with which to contact Ricochet members regarding meetups.  I can’t imagine that the Ricochet community will ever have the rug pulled out from under it, but it’s always worthwhile to have a plan in place if there is digital disaster looming in the future.  I like to think that members can act as partners to sustain this wonderful universe through the connections we’ve made with each other.
My list is private, and it will never be sold or used for anything other than Ricochet Meetups.  I share information only if I obtain explicit permission to do so, as I did with a few organizers during the recent breakdown of the message system.
In addition, there is a private Facebook page for Ricochet members.  You need to request permission to join it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/497433450324044/

Why are we talking about this? Did I just go through the torturous process of learning (sort of) 2.0 for naught? I have 4 words for DocJay at comment #7:
    Snap out of it!
    :)))

ET, actually that’s part of my core philosophy and faith.   Don’t obsess over this transient existence.

    1. The members group on Facebook would probably swell in members and activity.

    2. For the Preppers* among us, this is a huge reason for holding a Meetup in your area to build up your local Rico-cell.

*Prepping for a variety of events, not just the zombie apocalypse

  13. Jason Rudert

    Call the NSA.

Reports of our imminent demise have been highly exaggerated.  We plan to be around for the foreseeable future, and in fact, will soon announce some exciting partnerships and new features for the site.

Stick around, this is going to get good.

  15. Misthiocracy

Well, my productivity at work would most likely improve…

Glad to hear it, Blue Yeti!  There’s only so much time to keep “in touch” with people, and my quota is used up already.

Maybe, if the admins were monitoring it.  I’ve had a request in to join that group for a month.  I figured it was just for special people.  :-)

    i keep saying – encrypted fax list…

Sabrdance: i keep saying – encrypted fax list…

and encrypted carrier pigeons for the preppers.
