Video: Lileks, Long, and Goldberg on The Seven Deadly Virtues
Last night, Rob Long, James Lileks, and Jonah Goldberg joined up with Christine Rosen, P.J. O’Rourke, and Jonathan V. Last at the American Enterprise Institute to discuss their contributions to the new book, The Seven Deadly Virtues: 18 Conservative Writers on Why the Virtuous Life is Funny as Hell. We’ll be releasing this program as a podcast shortly, but in the meantime you can watch video of the event below:
As for the rest of the evening, based on what we hear from Jonah, it’s a shame that the cameras weren’t still running:

Great opening shot at Reich, Goldberg. And an even funnier follow-up.
How was the pre-game meet up? I was totally bummed I could’t make it.
I’m glad that Christopher Buckley is again (considered to be) on our side. . .
Good to see Santa Clause made it.
Also, Rob’s argument about justice was plagiarized but only from the best.

I will have to get the book.
For a long time I have realized that the end game of the progressive project is to eliminate virtue among the citizenry. The thing is that that progressives don’t even realize that this is their end game. The mission of liberals and progressives is to reduce negative feelings such as shame, obligation, guilt, insecurity, and fear from the general populace as much as possible. What they don’t realize is that these feelings are the negative feedback that lead to virtue. Shame leads people to temperance and continence. Obligation leads people to gratitude and fellowship. Guilt leads to frugality and charity. Insecurity leads to prudence and industriousness. Fear leads to caution and courage.
A carefree person is not a virtuous person.
The audio has now been posted on the front page and is also available in the Ricochet Podcast feed.
P.S. I was a witness (OK, a participant as well) to the scene described in Jonah’s Tweet. There was a lot of drinking.
There was a lot of drinking.
If you consider “before, during, and after” as “a lot.” Comstock.
