Trumpmentum!

Screen Shot 2015-06-16 at 18.34.51For those who think Rand Paul’s hairstyle is not idiosyncratic enough, Bernie Sanders’ pronouncements are not weird enough, Hillary Clinton is not rich enough, Jeb Bush is not “Florida” enough, and Lincoln Chafee’s priorities are not misguided enough:  YOU HAVE YOUR CANDIDATE!

“We need somebody that literally [literally!] will take this country and make it great again. We can do that,” Trump told a crowd of supporters. “… So ladies and gentleman, I am officially running for president of the United States.”

    If Donald Trump takes my country, I’m not going to want it back.

    He should run in the Democrat primary. He’d get a lot more attention and opportunities for self promotion by challenging Hillary every day than he will in the crowded GOP field. And it’s not like he has any particular principles or governing philosophy that tie him to one party over the other.

    This means that I am now in favor of the RNC’s debate participation limits.

    Except that he will meet their limits.  He has no chance at the nomination.  My hope is that his support stays low enough so that when he loses the primary he goes home.

    @BobThompson

    Doesn’t he have too many actual accomplishments to be running for POTUS?

    Ugh, maybe so.  Last time I checked he was below the limits.  He’s 8th in the RCP average now.

    But he’s 11th or 12th in the poll out today, so there’s that.

    And for someone who likes to troll, he cannot get tired of trolling the Clintons. That never gets old the way trolling a Scott Walker would.

    Totally agree.  A lot of his historical and current rhetoric sounds more Democratic than Republican.

    I don’t get it. An accomplished plain-spoken high-energy executive and you have no use for him? Someone is finally injecting excitement into this thing. I’m currently supporting Carly, but I’m happy to hear Trump out. Leave the snide condescension to the Democrats. They’re much better at it.

    MBF, you are correct that he doesn’t have firm allegiance to any party. He has been a Democrat, a Republican, a Reform-er, and an independent. He may also have been a member of the Wig, er, Whig party.

    Masked Man,

    Juan Williams was hyperventilating about the announcement on Fox’s “The Five”, claiming that Trump is a disaster for the Republicans. To Williams, I would say, “Was Al Sharpton a disaster for the Democrats?”

    I think the analogy is a good one. Everyone knows who and what these self-promoters are. Neither is, shall we say, an intellectual. Both are plain-spoken and high-energy. It’s what they speak about, and what they put their energy into, that’s the problem.
