Ian Tuttle has recently written an excellent essay in NR entitled Anti-Semitism, Old and New on this very same topic. I knew what the conclusion to his article would be before I even began to read it:
“Across Europe’s borders in recent years have flooded millions upon millions of immigrants, the overwhelming majority from North Africa and the Middle East. … the demographic makeup of Europe is changing rapidly. France may be home to Europe’s largest Jewish population (500,000) but it is also to its largest population of Muslims- some 5 million, just under 10 percent of the country’s total population. Four million Muslims in Germany. In Belgium, Muslims constitute 6 percent of the population—but 25 percent of Brussels. As of 2011, one in ten citizens in Malmö hailed from North Africa or the Middle East. Because of migration and birthrates, all of those numbers are projected to rise.”

The death camps were a unique thing. In part they resulted from a German obsession with order, mass production, and the like. They also were set against a relative decency of much of the German population who would clearly not murder Jews themselves and might not even advocate others do it. The transition from concentration camps to death camps also was something noteworthy Clearly, it was much easier for the German Volk to rationalize the former and then let the latter occur in semi-ignorance.
The modern anti-Semites are closer to ISIS types. They lack the productivity to create death camps and the fastidiousness/squeamishness to even want them. They are perfectly willing to do the dirty work themselves and the sooner the better. There will be no near decade from Nuremburg Laws to final solution or half decade from Kristallnacht.
I spent the summer of 1980 in Stockholm, and then travelled on to the Continent, and I find these reports of anti-semitism hard to reconcile with what I observed back then. I assume the overt manifestations you report, and I read about elsewhere, are the actions of recent Muslim immigrants. To what extent is the culturally European population engaging in this hate? I think it is insane to import hatred. How did the European governments think this would turn out? You are now expected to tolerate the intolerant.
America has either transformed itself into a useless gasbag or is going through a period of confusion as it sorts itself out. I am hopeful, but for at least a few more years, America will not exert any moral authority, and any hope for positive influence on world events is misplaced. I hate to tell you that, but your predicament is deadly serious and you must see reality clearly. On the other hand, I am confident that jews will remain safe in America, so you and your son have a safe harbor here.
I found your post very moving. It will stay with me for a long time.

Yep, and we’ve already been undergoing a cold civil war for at least the last decade-and-a-half.
That guy was right…this is not 1939. It’s worse. We’ve already seen and dealt with the insane death path trodden from 1939–1944. All the more reason there is no excuse to ignore the possible reappearance of that path now, in 2014.
And in response to the comment regarding the potential of death camps in this modern era, and that the ISIS and jihadists of today are not as fastidious as the Germans to create death camps…
What difference does it make if people are murdered in a death camp? in their town, by murderers house to house? starved on the side of a mountain? or with a dirty bomb? It is still death by murder that can be prevented.

I feel the same way. I’ve done a lot of business travel but genuinely loved the time spent in Israel- Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Jericho, Eilat (ok, that one was not really business). Aside from the positive professional experience, I doubt I’ve ever felt so personally in sync with a “foreign” country. There is an energy, sophistication and warmth that is absolutely contagious.
You misinterpreted my comment. The Holocaust analogy suggests a long process. It ironically creates a false sense of security. People will think there will be a Kristallnacht, after which they will still have plenty of time to emigrate. For the reasons I noted, in Eurabia, the next Kristallnacht may include the next Final Solution.
Agreed ctlaw, the death path will likely be retrodden quickly, and those leading the charge have little qualms for accomplishing their task.
This is not 1939. Our World is very different now.
These are surreal numbers.
We have plenty of room here for the remaining 1.5 million. Tiny New York City alone is home to 8.5 million people; the huge state of Massachusetts is home to 6.7 million. A group of 1.5 million immigrants we wouldn’t even notice. There is plenty of room everywhere I look. We should start an airlift. Seriously.
