Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Our first 2.0 Ricochet Podcast! This week, 2.0 is here (lots of talk about that), where’s MH370, Fox News’ James Rosen on Ukraine and his impressions of Obama and Hillary, the mysterious power and influence of the Dalai Lama, Rob does his downward dog, and the White House gets its just desserts.
Music from this week’s episode: Chill Out (Things Gonna Change) by John Lee Hooker
The Ricochet Podcast opening theme was composed and produced by James Lileks.

This really is one of the advertisements inserted into my view of this very Ricochet page:
It’s an ad for Toll Brothers Home Builders.
mp3 direct link?
Are the podcasts going to be available on Stitcher?
After starting the podcast in the player, I was able to right click on the player and save audio as an mp3. Works in Chrome at least.
Another thing: whom to we contact with technical problems? There is no contact information that I can see anyhwere

I love the placebo Alert. A drop down with a link to a page :-D.
Old habits die hard even for Yeti. The podcast art is going to have to go into the featured image area and the audio player at the bottom of the post, otherwise you get link pathing at the top of the posting. Welcome to Growing Pains, with Yeti as Alan Thicke.
FWIW, enclosure not showing here yet: http://ricochet.com/podcast/allfeeds/ (The URL to subscribe to the super feed).
This wasn’t posted correctly (my fault). Should be corrected shortly.
Did I just hear Peter Robinson — the ever meek and circumspect Peter Robinson — call for Democrats to be “punished”?
I knew the site would be getting an upgrade, but this Peter 2.0 is a nice surprise!
I just want to say to Peter and Rob, but especially to Rob who sounds a bit stressed by all of our yammering demands: this, too, will pass. I wish I could buy you a shot of your favorite hard beverage then watch as you toss back your head, swallow the contents, turn and throw the glass into a roaring fireplace.
Thank you, David, Barkha and Yeti.
OK, this should be fixed now. Apologies — it’s a completely different process from publishing on the old site.
It’s not just that people are against something new. Some of us have been working with 2.0 since November. It’s that some of us have disagreements with the design choices and aesthetics themselves. We simply don’t like them. That isn’t going to change with familiarity especially since we know how flexible this new platform is. Will they be tolerated? Probably, although that will depend, person-to-person, on how much a particular feature inhibits their ability to enjoy the site.
It’s also the frustration that these things were brought up in beta and apparently ignored since they are still issues now. The bugs not related to the transition and the design debates should have been hashed out in beta. That’s what beta is for. However, it is what it is. We will make do with what is decided on, and those who can’t stomach them will leave (although I don’t get the impression more than a handful of people are that upset with things).

I don’t think anyone who has listened to the limitations of the EZPublish platform disagrees with the necessity of switching platforms. The complaints as I read them, aside from basic complaints about things simply not working (which are being fixed), are over the design choices that were made, how they were made, and how the transition was handled.
I don’t know if a post mortem is worthwhile for a one-time change, but it might not be a bad idea to not only gauge how your customers feel about the new product but about how the new product was implemented once all the dust has settled.
Cool. Downloaded and ready for listening on the drive home. Thanks.
Wow. It’s stable. And the sound quality is better, too.
There seems to be a problem with the ‘Subscribe’ link for the Super Member Feed, and the main Ricochet podcast isn’t coming up under ‘The Ricochet Podcast’ as it previously has.
For a while the Super feed has been dicky on my iTunes so I’ve subscribed to all the individual ones. Since the podcast wasn’t coming down under the separate subscription I figured I’d try again subscribing to the Super Member Feed. I got a bright yellow warning box about the wrong server name, by clicked ‘Proceed Anyway’, figuring it was teething issues. That brought up page address ‘http://ricochet.com/podcast/allfeeds/’, which has an error message at the top: ‘This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.’, and this is followed by hundreds of lines of coded content.
Help? Please?
Haha! I’m in between your two posts. Nyah nyah.
Further to my last note, this is the rather disquieting content of the yellow warning box:
Ah, I see that ‘The Ricochet Podcast’ has now downloaded in iTunes, so that immediate problem is solved. Nonetheless, I would like to try to resurrect my subscription to the Super Member Feed if possible, if only to eliminate the 11 individual podcast subscriptions.
Note: all the individual podcast links seem to work okay except for one. In iTunes ‘International Edition with Levy & Counsell’ is reporting:
Wonderful, insightful and *funny*…Thanks for inviting Mr. Rosen! Will Dr. Krauthammer be along soon? <begging> Pretty please!
Interloper!
We are having some trouble getting the Super Feed working. It was something of a hack on the old site and has proven tricky to get it parsed over to the new site. We are working on it though. Hope to have it working by the end of the day.
James mentioned mysteries set in North Korea? Can somebody tell me about that? I heard him say Inspector No – maybe it was a joke I am just too dim after a long day to get, but if not it sounds interesting.
My error: Inspector O. http://www.amazon.com/Corpse-Koryo-Inspector-Novels/dp/0312374313
It’s an odd book and floats off into an almost surreal mood, but I found it interesting.
Thanks, James ! Glad to know I’m still in think-mode!
