This week, Troy Senik sits in for Peter Robinson as we bat around the big wrap up of last weekend, and SOTU…yawn. First up, The New York Time’s Ross Douthat talks conservative reform and more imperfect unions. Then, Washington Free Beacon’s Matt Continetti drops in for a fascinating chat about on Love In The Time of Obama. Also, does it matter that Hillary hasn’t driven a car in 18 years? Rob and James debate it so you don’t have to.

Music from this week’s episode:

If I Had A  Hammer by Sam Cooke

Majestyk: Do we really need more reasons to NOT elect Hillary aside from the fact that she’s woefully out of touch with the common American experience?

How about her suborning of her husband’s perjury to a Federal Grand Jury?  Let’s any one of us try to lie to a federal judge and not do some serious jail time.

How about the fact that she tolerated her creepy husband molesting a girl old enough to be their daughter while on the job?  Most women really like it when their man does this…

How about the MacDougalls, Whitewater, Vincent Foster, Ron Brown, the mysterious FBI files of Clinton enemies in the White House, and all of the other assorted lingering scandals which trailed the Clintons from Little Rock to Washington and beyond?

With what Gail Collins was able to achieve with a dog-on-carmeme, someone can beat the “hasn’t driven” horse until it makes hay.

    Don’t underestimate or undervalue mockery.

When I read Mathew Continetti’s piece on Sam Kass and Alex Wagner, and as you discussed it, I couldn’t help thinking of the late Governor Ann Richards in 1988 at the Dem Convention mocking George H.W. Bush, “he can’t help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.”

They are born into privilege and assume it is the meritocracy working correctly, that they started from the same place as everyone else. People of equal intelligence and talents as them will do well, but not as fast and not to the levels they’ve reached so quickly and so effortlessly. See Ronan Farrow for the latest example.

I like to do little mental experiments from time to time, and when I heard in the aural montage leading into the podcast the snippet of GWB on the bullhorn, I tried to imagine our current president standing on the smoldering pile, shouting, “The people who knocked these buildings down: They’re going to hear all of us soon!”

    I failed.

The movie is “On the Town,” and the thought of Hilary singing “Let’s go to my place” may well haunt my dreams for weeks.

    Who’s gonna sing “Prehistoric Man?”

But I’m having some difficulty seeing how the ending of Dave would in any way match onto On The Town…

Yes!  Thank you for pointing out how Obama fits the Palpatine role in Revenge of the Sith that was meant for GW Bush!  During the Bush years, the “Bush and or Cheney is Palpatine/Hitler” meme kept going around, and it was all completely made up!  But the fiction took on a life of its own, like Bush Senior saying “Na gonna do it!”  or Vlad the Impaler being a vampire.

I knew about that from other readings, I forget where, but she’s a beaut isn’t she? A 27 year old arrogant nasty twit trying to create a show trial where she asks all the questions and he’s forbidden to defend himself, just like in Mother Russia!

Of course, as we know, leftists are allowed any number of ‘youthful indiscretions’ while a Republican can be marked lousy for life for coveting a candy bar in Kindergarden.

I’m a resident of the Vampire State. I lived through the disaster of 2000, The Lazio campaign was always going to hit her with both barrels next week. Its been 14 years, I’m still waiting. First, you can’t hit the girl EVER!, in fact you may not even walk close to the girl. Secondly everything mentioned above by Majestyk and kylez is old news that ‘we’ve gone over and over’ and she’ll refuse to talk about any of them. The Press will completely back her up on this, as James was saying, bringing up any of those things will be likened to birtherism.– ‘What next, Mr. Cruz, will you be saying she was born in Kenya now?’ . Lastly our ‘campaign consultants’  will run for the tall grass and forbid the mentioning of anything derogatory towards Democrats just like they did in 2008 and 2012, after all, they hope to work in Washington again,  I’m not at all sanguine, in fact, I’m pretty sure we’re skee-rewed.

Lileks is right, if Clinton is the nominee, the Republicans need to go after her on every front, from where was she during the 24 hour period of Benghazi to driving a car.

The Left had a field day going after Romney about tieing Seamus to the roof of his car. Completely ridiculous, but it was repeated over, and over, and over, and over on social media.

Same thing with Clinton and the little bitty details.

Ha! Yes, I noticed that too, so jarring, especially coming from Lileks.  Sorry Lileks.  I imagine that’s how it would sound if Katherine Hepburn were to say Key Largo.
