Well-stuffed with Thanksgiving feasts, (and taking a moment to condemn Thanksgiving Day shopping) Jay and Mona tackle Obamacare with fresh gusto, wondering about the “crisis of statism” as the pretensions of central control wither in the icy blast of reality.

They consider whether Democratic claims to speak for the “little guy” will ever be exposed – and whether Republicans will learn to answer such arguments.

Jay confesses to something about New Yorkers who smoke, praises a new biography of Mozart, and joins Mona in scorning the Clintons and looking forward to 2014.

No, Mona. Here in Israel (including Jerusalem) we say “Next year in rebuilt Jerusalem.”

Jay, the Jordanians and Egyptians didn’t create a Palestinian state because the Palestinian people hadn’t been invented yet.

Mona, do you shop on Memorial Day? Why is shopping on Thanksgiving any worse.

Jay, how did people who fund leftism make so much money?  Currency manipulation, perhaps?

I knew it! Mona listens to (and I assume is a fan of) Econtalk.  I have even more respect for you now, Mona – if that were possible. Another reason to love this podcast. I’ve waited a long time to say how much I look forward to hearing each episode. Now after much soft hectoring from Rob Long I am a member and can come out as the unabashed fan of NTK.

Jay is my hero for never patronizing the American voter. You’ll never get elected Jay, but I’d vote for you just for telling the truth. We need more like you.

BTW, Rob would do well in on-air fund raising. I used to hear the best and the worst when I worked for non-commercial stations, including one NPR member station. I was the staff anomaly, but they treated me with respect.

And Mona, thanks for recommending the film, “One Two Three.”

NorthSound:  Checkout Episode 15 for Mona interviewing Russ Roberts.

Second Jay’s recommendation of P Johnson’s short biography of Socrates.

  4. NorthSound

Thanks Fred Williams. Though I have been listening for a while, I clearly have a lot to catch up on. Thanks too for word on the Paul Johnson book.
