John Yoo got it wrong. Rand Paul was not filibustering about ever killing an American on American soil. He was clear that sometimes it is necessary. He wanted to know if they would kill even if there was no immediate threat. Quite different. More like Waco where they could have arrested Koresh in town that morning, but instead laid siege.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t help but wonder if Richard Epstein read Atlas Shrugged, maybe he would realize the horrible precedence of giving the UN power to tax the seas.

  3. Chris Campion

Justice League?  More like the Codpiece League, per the photos.  Well played, gentlemen.

Not knowing how to comment on a podcast, I can only record my impressions. Obvious that Epstein might be in Illinois, long sleeves.

Otherwise, optimistic plays on the assumed superpowers of Yoo and Senik, however handicapped they might be with those outfits .

If they can’t define national defense , who can ?

    ……..don’t ask

    That image is just wrong.

Which Justice League member is John Yoo supposed to be? I swear I don’t recognize the costume.

    I think he’s Green Arrow.

Except it was about whether such killings could be done with a drone, not whether it could be done. Isn’t it beside the point since the government has already killed a mass of American noncombatants without due process with tear gas-caused fire, in the case of Waco, and high-powered weapons in the case of Ruby Ridge? If the issue had been about the government’s right to kill rather than the government’s policy on killing, Paul would not have gotten near the support he did (but he would have gotten a lot more applause from me). Right thing, wrong issue, in my opinion. And now he’s saying he’s ready to go again … uh boy. I hope, unlike Obama, Paul will realize that in politics, less is more.

Mona, with respect to 9/11 and shooting down an airliner with American citizens on board to prevent it being flown into a building: This is not relevant to Rand Paul’s filibuster. In the case of the airliner, the innocent citizens on board are not the intended targets of the strike but are unavoidable and unfortunate collateral damage. Paul was talking about cases in which American citizens, in situations in which they are not actively fighting the authorities, are the intended targets of liquidation. As earlier commenters have pointed out, this is not unprecedented in recent history (Waco, Ruby Ridge).

Mr. Smith sat in Daniel Webster’s chair – so, presumably he was the Senator from Massachusettes.

So in addition to Ricochet’s having a booth at CPAC where Pamela Geller is unwanted, Law Talk will be at Forham, which disinvited Ann Coulter.

    This makes me very uncomfortable.

  12. They invited us, we did not pick the venue. And this is the first I’ve heard of any previous demonstrations.

You think Fordham would handle a demonstration this time any better than last time? Have they given you reason to give them another chance? Are there no other venues in Metropolitan NYC? · 21 minutes ago

A great listen as usual, fellas.  It helped me get through another enormously boring run.  I wonder if anyone notices that the runner in their neighborhood is laughing to himself on the run?  Maybe that’s why people run inside and slam the doors shut as I trundle past.

I just want to express my appreciation for Prof. Yoo’s shout out for Hunt’s Manwich sauce, one of the most under appreciated additions to American cuisine IMHO.  Not only does it make outstanding sloppy joe’s, especially if you use some quality ground beef, I also recently discovered a outstanding ancillary use for this delicious culinary wonder sauce.  I was making vegetable beef soup/stew a couple of months ago and I realized I forgot to buy my customary can of crushed tomatoes and tomoto paste.  But I did have a can of Hunt’s Manwich sauce so I substituted.  It is outstanding.  Something about the ingredients in it give the soup/stew a really great additional zing in addition to the necessary tomato base for the broth.  I use it every time now.  Mark it down and try it, you will not be disappointed. Broth base basics: 5 cups water, 1x Knorr beef base gelatin pack, 1x Lipton Onion Soup mix, 1/2 to 1 chopped onion, 2x tablespoons of Italian Seasoning, 1x of Hunt’s Manwich sauce.   (cont.)

(cont. from #16) I braise 2 lbs boneless stew beef with onion/garlic in olive oil in a wok sprinkled with a little Lowry’s or McCormick Season All, add it to the base along with stew vegetables, chopped broccolli and peas (I just use frozen pre-prepped because I’m too lazy/short of time to prep it all but could use fresh if you’ve got the motivation/dedication.  Simmer for at least 4o mins.  You can add noodles after if you like, which I often do.  Not going to win any Iron Chef competitions, but its quick, easy, and pretty inexpensive.  Feeds 8-10 easy or 4 for a week+ of lunches. Enjoy.

This might get tossed in the crockpot this weekend.  Wait.  Weren’t we talking about drones and filibusters?
