After serving in the trenches of the shutdown fight, National Review’s Bob Costa and Andrew Stiles return to wrap up the entire experience and take a look at what’s ahead from their perch in the halls of Congress. What happened and why, who’s up and who’s down — they cover it all. Afterwards, they took a deserved nap.

The golden moment has arrived for the “Establishment” to show us Tea Party Troglodytes how it’s done. They have between now and 1/15/14 to map out a winning strategery.

Is this the same Bob Costa who “served in the trenches of the fight” via visiting the White House and being so impressed by the President.

I love the podcast.  I just think it is too easy to criticize politicians whose tactics you dislike without offering any kind of plan on your own. Although I agree with most of the we-went-in-unprepared analysis.

I think McConnell’s hesitancy to criticize Cruz was less about  being afraid of a tea party back lash and more about being a team player. He is allowing Cruz to learn without highlighting his mistakes and causing a further rift in the party. I’ve always liked McConnell and I don’t understand the sudden turn most of the GOP took on him.

The podcast mentioned that Senator McConnell said that Democrats control the Senate and the White House so delaying or defunding Obamacare is unrealistic.  It is that kind of thinking that is both maddening and the reason Ted Cruz resonates with many.  Our side believe that Obamacare is a very bad law.  So, Senator, tell me what you can do to try to stop it, not what you can’t do .

In the real world, if I went to my boss and said we have a major problem and I think I can fix it in 3 or 4 years, he would fire me and I would deserve it.

But what do you tell your boss when he asks you to develop a miniature cold fusion plant by next year?

  8. Buckeye74

I guess that’s the point.  Obamacare passed 3 years ago, the 2010 elections have come and gone and the Senator wants another 3 years to start getting something done.  Patience can be a good tactic if it is tied to a good plan. Is 6-years enough to develop a miniature cold fusion plant?

Right, but in that regard both the Tea Party Congressmen and the Republican party leadership are equally without a plan.

From day one in 2010, the Tea Party strategy has been to run into the brick wall with the delusional hope that it will fall down.  They have yet to present a path to dismantling Obamacare which does not involve the impossible happening.

Meanwhile, the leadership’s plan is to wait 200 years until the brick wall erodes away. They also have not presented a credulous path to anywhere.

The correct answer to the question of who has the better strategy, Ted Cruz or Mitch McConnell, is: neither.

Thanks for your discussion, Mr. Costas. Your talk actually enlightened me as to how the liberal Republicans, east coast and Ivy League uneducated and living the dream of single-minded thinking Beltway types actually came to hate Cruz.

Don’t think you did anything real special except to spell out the facts.

    Again, thanks.

Suggestion: you, but Andrew especially, probably need a straight man or woman to ask the questions and moderate the answers. Just a suggestion.
