Nov 14, 2012

Update: New, louder version has now been uploaded. To receive the new version, please delete the current show in iTunes and re-download or click on the player or the direct link.

For 142 shows, we’ve never been in the same room at the same time. That ends with this show, which we recorded in front of an audience on the National Review cruise aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam somewhere in the Caribbean. Our guests are Deroy Murdock, Jonah Goldberg, John Yoo, and Jay Nordlinger. We hope you have as much much listening to it as we had recording it.

    I love how everyone’s in a blazer and button-down . . . except James.

    . . .

EDIT: Although, wait a second . . . Peter appears to be wearing jeans . . . and sandals!

  2. Robert Dammers

What’s with the spelling?  The name on the bow is “Nieuw Amsterdam”, proper Dutch spelling.  You could Anglicise it to “New Amsterdam”, perhaps.  But “Niew”?  I blame Goldberg – he mis-spelled it in his tweet from Jamaica.

  3. Robert Dammers

James does casual.  The others don’t really know how.

  4. DutchTex

I was going to say the same thing!

The audio is really soft. Very hard to hear. I have to turn it up on max.

I did indeed, very much much.

  7. SParker

Wow, it’s amazing how the tempo changes when ya’ll aren’t broadcasting from separate hidden locations (speeds and tightens–sort of like you’re frightened the audience will rush the stage and ram cocktail parasols into your eyeballs, an entirely rational view of any audience anywhere it goes without saying  (see Limelight, the Chaplin one).  I’m only a couple of minutes in, but I will welcome a return to normalcy.

And I was so hoping you’d do this drunk.   Somewhere short of “commode-hugging” drunk, but that might have been interesting too.

edited:  replaced inartful repetition of “view” in penultimate sentence of first para with paradoxical cliche.  Because it was bugging me.

  8. Pacificus

Sounds like a great trip…I’m jealous…However, the audio was weak…

  9. Stephen Bishop

Unfortunately the audio level was too low to continue listening.

It’s a little better using Stitcher. I had to turn it off when using my computer’s speakers, but my iPhone (non headphones) are somewhat better.

  11. I’ll try and boost the audio and re-upload it later today.

  12. Sean

Live from steerage, apparently, among the old deck chairs.

  13. Hartmann von Aue

    DutchTex and Robert Dammers- bedankt!

Could DeRoy Murdock develop his lecture/powerpoint on Memphis/Motown and the Civil Rights Movement into an NRO article at least? I would very much like to read it.

  14. Benjamin Glaser

Let me know when you re-upload it. Can’t hear it on my laptop with the background noise of the hot air blowing through my heating duct.

  15. Benjamin Glaser

By the way I know we whine a lot, but seriously Blue Yeti, thanks for your hard work. It is appreciated!

  16. Trace

I took that seminar with Rob. I think the Titus Andronicus comment might have been mine.

  17. Grendel

I cared about the Roman numbering.

  18. The New Clear Option

I’ve already had as “much much” as you guys did, and I haven’t even tried listening to it yet!

I just want to say, the next time Ricochet needs someone to do a foghorn sound effect… ask me. Please. I do one much better. That was painful…
