This week, Peter Robinson returns with tales of the east, a fervent debate on the complications of the Supreme Court’s DOMA ruling, North Dakota Senator John Hoeven joins to discuss immigration (and is later abruptly cut off due to technical difficulties), and a raucous debate on the issue amongst the podcasters. Also, are we willingly giving up too many rights or are they being taken against our will? Tell us in the comments. All that and Don Draper too.

I agree with James. We need to keep an eye on those Manitobans swimming upstream the Red.

Is it just me, or did it seem like Hoeven and Peter were having two separate conversations just before the technical difficulties? Hoeven in fact seems almost deranged in his inability to understand that no matter what the law says, Obama and Napolitano will NEVER allow the increased security to be put in place.

Yay ! Go James, the EPA rant has the makings of a Screedblog, the innocent sounding EPA law has given absolute dictatorial powers to the likes of lunatic leftist Lisa Jackson, none of us voted for that. Anyone who said that at the time would have been branded a crazy conspiracy nut who ‘wants’ dirty air and water and hates children.

I would recommend here the latest Joe Pickett novel by Ricochet contributor C.J. Box, Breaking Point.  The Pickett series is fantastic to start with and the plot of this entry is inspired by the infamous Sackett / EPA case in Idaho.

This entire argument that the normal person is not interested in everyday politics and future is incorrect.  We have to reach out to them where it matters.  Everyone knows about SOPA and CISPA.  Instead of our side leveraging the momentum behind these things, republicans are busy talking abortion and gay marriage.

There are fronts where we can recruit people, but we are too busy sounding like grandpas lecturing the young, lamenting about the good old days.  Way to tune out a generation guys.

As for the fake Indian with a tear, why not have little girls in pigtails being arrested by police for not having proper license for their lemonade stands?  How about a little boy’s dog being shot by a swat team that got the wrong address in their drug raid?  Why are WE  not inundating the airwaves with out own Indians?

In the Al Pacino movie And Justice For All, Jack Weston plays a suicidal judge who has pretty much lost his mind. He’s a helicopter pilot, and he invites Al Pacino out for a ride. Just for the fun of it, this judge flirts with disaster by flying past the fuel-halfway point, taking the thrilling risk whether he’ll have enough fuel to return. Every ride is a dangerous flirt with death.

That character comes to mind whenever James Lileks goes for a segue back to the sponsor. How far can he go, and is there any way he can make it back without crashing?

Yes! I agree, this is exactly what we need to be doing. Instead of wringing our hands and complaining about the tactics the left has been using, we should determine which of their tactics have been most effective and employ them ourselves.

I think people would get the message from these types of commercial – you want to convey it as a general point, and not make it explicitly “political”. Once people have soaked in the idea, they will respond when they hear a politician making the same point. I think we have been trying to do this in reverse order, which is not as effective.

Click on the link again, John. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the MP3 file to become available as it is stored on a different server than the site runs off of.

The Blue Yeti does that sort of thing sometimes, John.  You know.  Just to make sure Ricochet members are on their toes.

(In truth:  This is one of the thousand or so things we hope to improve in designing Ricochet 2.0, work now well in hand.)

Guys, I have to say this was one of the best flagship podcasts that you’ve done.  The three-way discussion/debate/banter between Peter, Rob, and James was excellent, both before and after the interview and “intermission”.  Fascinating listening, and I loved it.

Is there one. single. solitary. human. who honestly thinks that anything in the immigration bill will be enforced?

It’s so insulting that politicians think we’ll buy it.
