The Hinderaker-Ward Experience (HWX) returns for a special Memorial Day weekend edition. John Hinderaker of Power Line and Brian Ward of Fraters Libertas reunite to discuss the BIG issues of the day, including:

* the IRS scandal, the Benghazi Scandal, the AP wiretap scandal

* the ability of any political scandal to break though to masses in the modern era

* scandal fatigue

* Scandal featuring Patty Smyth (not really)

We’re also joined by the great Adam Carolla. He’s an actor, a comedian, the #1 podcaster in America, a vinter, and for our money, the funniest guy in show business. He’s also a Republican leaning libertarian in Hollywood and we talk about his outlook and experiences in Los Angeles.

Listener of the week honors goes to the first person in the comments section to name the blood alcohol content one reaches by merely looking at the label of a bottle of Mangria.

Additional feedback in the comments in most welcome, we hope you enjoy and thanks for listening. Please subscribe to the HWX show by clicking here

The BAC percentage from just looking at the label is .03%. Now that is fortified wine!  It was a fun podcast. I’ve only seen references to Adam C. elsewhere and so it was interesting to hear him.

  2. Ario IronStar

Once again, I’m #2.  In responding to the HWE question, that is.  Not in any other way you may have inferred.  Shame on you.

  3. Ario IronStar

BTW, HWE is a less chic synonym for HWX.

And Patrick Gibbs is the winner, with a close Show position for Ario Iron Star.

It was our tradition to have our winners join us for 5 minutes on the next podcast, and I want to reinstate that.  Patrick, I’ll DM you when we know more about dates and times.  And Ario Iron Star, your time is coming!

Great interview; well done. I once brought a bottle of Mangria to a party, and one of the guests poured a glass thinking it was regular red wine. The expression on her face when she took a sip was priceless. For the record, I believe Mangria should be enjoyed with a generous splash of orange juice.

Hey, any idea why I don’t get this podcast in the Superfeed?

Thanks for the Carolla interview.  It’s interesting how I can handle, or accept the extremes of his sexual discussions because of his other thoughts; not sure how that works, but I really love the man’s mind.

  7. Butters

Carolla’s podcast is awesome but definitely rated R

For the uninitiated, pound for pound, the best Carolla podcast is the Adam and Dr. Drew Show.  The Adam Carolla Podcast is great, but a bit longer-form great.  Ace on the House is also very funny and wise, even though, in theory, it’s about home improvement.  OK, I listen to them all; even Alison Rosen is Your New Best Friend.

Issa should have asked this question  (inter alia) of Lois Lerner:

“When you met with Pres. Obama, did he tell you to target the conservative Tea Party groups who apply for exemptions? ”

Then she would have had to answer: ” On advice of counsel, I refuse to answer that question based on my 5th Amendment right, on the ground that truthfuly answering the question may incriminate me criminally.”

Yeah.  We should have had that sound bite.

This is the first time I’ve won a contest (of any sort) in quite awhile. It’s fun.

I’m looking forward to joining the podcast. I subscribe on iTunes and have listened to practically all of them.

Glad to hear Carolla out himself as conservative.  I thought he might hedge.  Also, surprised bits of that got through the CoC filters.

  12. Nick Stuart

Thank you for connecting the dots between IRS (and other Fed agencies) targeting Tea Party and “true the vote” groups, and voter suppression in 2012. It is becoming clear that it was a massive campaign of voter suppression. Hopefully more of the conservative commentariat and Republican leadership will pick up on this (although many of the “conservatives” and “Republicans” may  have been glad for the suppression).

Hadn’t heard it put so succinctly anywhere else, it’s possible that the IRS tactics had an impact in the reelection of President Barack Obama.

Also, I’m bemused that you did not put a huge disclaimer on your recommendation of Adam Carolla’s show.

I’m a fan of his, but his shows, while interspersed with rants and a bit of wisdom, can be raunchy and foul as well.

“When did you stop beating your wife?”

Seems cheap to me, but I’ll defer to Issa on how to handle his business.

  15. Franco

Thanks for the great interview of Carolla.
