Radio Free Delingpole
Episode 34: A Genuine Nazi

Guest: Richard Delingpole

This week, James’ special guest is none other than his own brother Richard Delingpole, who’s standing for county council in Worcestershire and is embroiled in a negative campaign. It would be sad if it wasn’t so hilarious. Also, Game of Thrones and Richard is a battle re-enactor. Tally ho!

Trouble picking sides in the English Civil War?  What kind of conservative doesn’t like Oliver Cromwell (except if you’re Irish)?

How about trouble picking sides in the American Civil War? He could, you know, just not pick the side that supported slavery.

Let’s face it, no-one is genuinely offended by Dick’s Hitler pic, they’re using it as a stick to beat him with in the hope that some voters will think he’s nuts. Which is exactly what the campaign managers predicted when they told everyone to delete any dodgy pictures.

That’s the nature of political campaigns: you grab whatever weapon is within reach.

  4. The Mugwump

    EJ, you’re the bomb.

  5. Rightfromthestart

Gratuitous Nixon shot was unnecessary, James, anything you my have read in the American press about Nixon is probably a lie. This is the left’s long game of constant repetition of the slander. There is no need for those of us on the right to add to the chorus. Just ask yourself how does someone so evil take 49 states. In 50 years school children will be taught about people being ’rounded up’ by the evil Cheney while the negligent homicides, rapes and overall corruption of the Kennedy crime syndicate will be down the memory hole, not to mention the Chicago gang that’s in there now.

  6. Joseph Stanko

I was pondering the fact that British candidates stand for office, while Americans run for office.

Given all the time and effort involved in a campaign the term “run” seems a more fitting analogy.

One question you could fire back at Offended in Armenia is whether she supported the Armenian Legion, which fought on the side of the Nazis:

The twisted timber of human history is not straight enough to contain a single person without an ancestor who owned slaves, hated outsiders, or participated in the odd pogrom. There are things to be genuinely upset about, like all the things just mentioned, but most offense-taking seems to be rooted in self-righteousness and misguided attempts to right wrongs which we simply haven’t the power to truly make right.

Given all the crap that comes out their mouths, “run” is more apropos.

Are there more Delingpoles? Richard was a delight – bring them all in!

Although the Game of Thrones stuff lost me for a while. Don’t have HBO. Saw part of one episode while at a hotel and had two thoughts: they put naked women on the screen constantly for no good reason, and the little guy can’t do an English accent.

  10. Hartmann von Aue

No, no, no. It’s always a blue box. Never a DeLorean.

Can I just say:  the best RFD podcast to date.  Loved having listening to your brother.  Now, can I borrow his time machine?

And did you know that the English “sit” an exam, but American “take” an exam.  They really aren’t men of action, are they?

    Americans do not have accents.

    Southerner’s do. ;)

Still, pretty respectable. Best of luck to the re-enactor.

Third position is not bad, congratulations.

But still the UKIP have just got a gigantic success on this election, I am waiting for James Delingpole gloat thread about it and how it means that the Tea Party should take the pitch forks and create its own political Party.

  17. Mafuta Kizola

There is nothing more beautiful than a pair of brothers bonded by great friendship. The Delingpoles are really some mighty trolls, I am interested to know if they enjoyed this brand of madness crossed with courage during WW2 or WW1.

Best Radio Free Delingpole – I laughed a bunch. Thanks Richard.
