Join Jim and Greg as they react to Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr stepping down from his committee post as the FBI investigation deepens into his coronavirus-related investment decisions. They also assess why Joe Biden keeps moving far left even though he has the Democratic nomination wrapped up. And they recoil as those quick-response COVID tests used by the White House and other places are found to deliver false negatives anywhere from 33-48 percent of the time.

Jim’s memories of Joe Biden are not my memories of him. Just want to get along? I wonder what Judges Bork or Thomas would think about that. Center of the Democratic Party? Don’t I remember that Joe and Barack were rated as the two most leftist Senators when they ran for higher office together? And what about that whole gay marriage thing?

Remember, Jim Geraghty is always wrong.

He warns Joe Biden not to move left, because it will cost him the votes of all those Republican conservatives who oppose Trump.  All four of them.

He goes into a panic over a single study that indicates some of the new COVID-19 tests have a high rate of false negatives.  Even without the probable anti-Trump bias of the people doing the research, a single study means little:  wait for the results to be replicated.

In any case, you can improve reliability by giving multiple tests.  If there’s a 10% chance of a false negative with a particular test, then if you take two tests there’s only a 1% chance that both will have false negatives (if the false negatives occur randomly).

Basically, the staff at the Dispatch (and probably the Bulwark too, but nobody’s paying any attention to them) and a handful at National Review who are engaged in mental gymnastics to somehow justify a vote for Biden now that Justin Amash (who?) quickly disappeared from the public consciousness soon after announcing that he was considering a 2020 presidential run as a Libertarian.
