The Greatest Game

“It’s time for the Ricochet Poooodcaaaast!” If only we had Vin Scully to announce that the epic way he did earlier this week at Game 2 of The World Series.  But this podcast ain’t too shabby either: leading off we’ve got the great Mollie Hemingway on that whole dossier controversy and batting cleanup, it’s power-hitter Pat Sajak on the greatest game, this series,  and why baseball will always be the America’s pastime. Batter up!

Music from this week’s podcast: My Blue Heaven by Fats Domino

Now batting: @ejhill

I recognize James, Peter, and Pat in the photo above, but is that Molly on the right?  She looks very different from her voice.

Great podcast as always! After listening to Mollie talk about Fusion GPS, I decided to look into them more and discovered they are also involved in the state sponsored persecution, sorry, prosecution of the people behind the Planned Parenthood expose videos (see Mollie’s lesser half’s article). This hack outfit is absolutely disgusting and I don’t understand how they have any credibility left.

Apologies to Pat and probably Peter, but go ‘Stros!

When I did the original photoshop I knew there was no way Mollie would forgive me for Dodger Blue. (I know because I barely forgive her for being a Cardinals fan.)

The segues in their day were amusing but I often found myself listening for James’ point like Ralphie breaking the code and hearing  ‘Be sure to drink your Ovaltine’

Agree with Pat about the throat shoving of soccer, just realized that around that same time was the smug throat shoving of the metric system, also rejected by the people.

Segues, anti-segues, it doesn’t matter. James is the master.

R.I.P. Fats Domino. Thanks for reminding us.  And — thanks for a fun podcast. Love, love Mollie and Pat.

Forgive me for descending into rank punditry, I don’t think that the Dems in 2020 will be able to beat Trump via the popular vote. What leftist man or woman (or gender fluid or other kin person) didn’t show up to vote against Donald Trump? I understand tha the left is ginning up their base but even if they double their anger, I doubt that they can much increase their votes by appealing to the base. Trump can (for all his many faults) appeal to blue dog democrats.

I have always liked the segues.  For me, they provide something equivalent to Ed McMahon for Johnny Carson.  It’s one way to keep everyone (listeners and participants) on their toes.  Bravo, James Lileks!  (This comment was NOT approved by the “James Lileks for Best Ricochet Podcast Host Committee”)

Also, loved hearing Pat Sajak’s comments!

The horror! As a Cleveland Indians fan first (my hometown) and a Houston Astros fan second (my adopted town) I have had to suffer through the major market bias of Joe Buck (and his just in general insufferableness) and now from Peter Robinson. FYI @peterrobinson, Puig homered in the 10th and followed that with a game ending strikeout in the 11th – that was the moment of his that I enjoyed. And I’ll take Francisco Lindor or Jose Altuve any day over Puig. Go Astros!

Ah yes, the back-and-forth between Johnny and Ed at that late night hour was a delightful sort of topping off of the day, wasn’t it?  Like a dessert, often with a dessert.  A little time to reflect, a little time to unwind, turn out the lights, one by one, and retire to a comfy night’s sleep, on a Casper mattress.

I’ve never cared for baseball, but I don’t begrudge those who are fans of it. But what pleases me about the modern era is the ease with which I am able to ignore it. As a child I was always frustrated when baseball playoffs dominated the the few channels that were available at the time and preempted the programs I really wanted to watch. Now in the modern era there are so many channels of entertainment and information that without effort I was able to remain ignorant who was even in the World Series until after it began.  Thank goodness for the modern information era.

    No.

I love the segues, but Rob’s deliberate interruptions stopped being funny a couple hundred episodes ago.  If the segues come as a package deal with the interruptions I’ll make do without the segues.

Although, there was the one episode a year or two back where James reacted to the segue interruption by basically saying “Screw it, I’m going for coffee”, and walking away, leaving Rob and Peter alone, with Rob laughing nervously saying “This is different”.  I almost drove off the road I was laughing so hard.

I miss them and it’s obvious that James misses them as well.  Denying James his segues is an injustice.

I very much agree with this.  It was funny the first few times, but the segue interruption has been annoying for years.
