Powerful episode from some knowledgeable people. Thanks.
It’s POW-ay, not POH-way. Just like it’s spelled. My wife grew up there.
Thank you for mentioning this. “Pow” as in “ka-pow!”
Jim Geraghty/Greg Corombos pronounced it the same way on Three Martini Lunch.
PS I live in the area.
Hurt my ears every time they said it. We were married at St. Michael’s in Poway, lived in Escondido and Vista for a couple years, and then moved to Minnesota. :( I grew up in the Santa Barbara area, so it goes without saying that I miss the southern California climate. Of course there’s no way we can afford the housing prices out there, so here we are.
I live in Escondido! My husband taught at Poway High. Can’t seem to extricate ourselves from So-Cal. We bought our house a long time ago, our family is here, etc. But I am getting a bit weary of what seems to be the new normal–“fire season.”
