Just stick with me here, folks. A friend spotted our debate about legalizing weed, and sent me this:

35314_10150210410915599_744615598_13703365_2937032_n

Now, I'm not sure what that thing is, but I suspect it's some kind of weapon, don't you? And I suspect the message of this poster is that we should deplore the irony and perversity of such a weapon being legal while a friendly little plant like marijuana is contraband. Well, my friend should know me better: He should know by now that I'm a thoroughgoing Second Amendment fanatic, and what's more, I do not take the zombie problem lightly. Whatever that thing is, I want one. I'll keep it with my stash.

Anyway, you may think I'm sort of a worrywart for wanting every protection I can get against the zombie menace. That's only because you don't know how serious it is. My brother wrote a great article about trying to buy a zombie in Haiti. It will open your eyes.

Any of our weapons experts out there ever used one of those things on a zombie? How well did it work for you? I guess if you lived to tell the tale, it must have done the job.

Next time you are on the podcast with Jonah Goldberg, ask him. He is an expert on liberal fascism and the zombie menace.

That is an M134 electric minigun. It fires 7.62mm ammunition at a few thousand rounds per minute, and it's usually mounted on aircraft.

I have used one on zombies in a video game. The effect was...effective!

Dude! It is so cool that you knew that!

Amusing. But I would like to know where all you video game geeks were when I was getting obliterated by Matt Frost in another stream for defending video games! And I don't even PLAY video games.

Video games and movies are the only places you will see people hand carrying this weapon (e.g., Jesse Ventura in Predator) . It is seriously heavy. And if you spool it up to maximum fire rate the recoil will send you heading the opposite direction right smartly.

But indisputably effective against zombies.

"Indisputably effective" -- that sounds like the confident voice of experience there, George. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who wants to learn more about your experience of combatting zombies in hand-to-hand conflict. I'm sure it's a painful subject to talk about, but sometimes it can be healing to share these things--and I know we can all learn from your experience. We're your friends. We're supportive. And we need to know, for our own protection. So let's hear the story.

1) I spent a couple of years working for the Army in the group that buys 7.62 ammo, and my next former company now owns the production line.

2) I need to post the photos of me firing the AK-47 in Vietnam last month.

I find that lawnmowers and golf clubs make effective zombie control.

I rarely talk politics with the game developers I know. But if I ever hear one spouting conservative ideals, I'll try to coax him to join Ricochet. Video game design was the focus of my old blog (which isn't entirely dead... just in hibernation), so I'm always available on that subject. Sorry to leave you hanging, Trace!

Incidentally, a blind spot in conversative discourse is the inclusion of conservatives values in video games. The medium can be as effective as literature in shaping the views of kids and adults alike (the average gamer age is over 30). Mass Effect 2 is an example of a video game that encourages players to ask deep questions. And anything by Will Wright (SimCity, The Sims, Spore) or Sid Meier (Civilization, Pirates!) is educational. All of these games were produced by neo-liberals. Conservatives are needed in game design as they are needed in Hollywood.

Well... legal if you're a Class III firearms dealer not selling to the general public, at least. I'm so glad that I'm in the Army, sometimes; it's just amazingly stupid fun firing one of those suckers from the door of a UH-60. You can burn through several thousand dollars worth of ammunition in a couple of minutes.

I've never fired one of those, I had no idea those existed, but now...I need to fire one. I have a feeling some of my relatives might be able to arrange that, I can't give away the details but there are compounds in the Appalachians, and on my last visit we had a gay vs. straight competition with AK-47's and this ridiculous mounted thing that fired 50-caliber rounds and yet was still NOWHERE NEAR as awesome looking as that. I don't think there are any zombies in Tennessee, sadly. Lots of marijuana and firearms, though...and after the past several days of posts, it's not a stretch to imagine you firing one with a lit joint clamped between your teeth :)

Please be responsible, Mr. Gilbert. Drugs and zombie-killing don't mix. How do you think Haiti got into such a mess in the first place.
