Your Daily Dose of Optimism

The Heritage Foundation has put together a nice video tribute to Ronald Reagan, which you can watch below. "As we celebrate Reagan's 100th birthday," the narrator says, "let's honor him by recommitting ourselves to the conservative principles that he championed so that one day soon we can tell future generations that it's morning in America once again."
Can you think of any political figure, on the left or right, who is as radiantly optimistic and hopeful as Reagan was? I can't. The obvious answer, I suppose, is Sarah Palin. But her defining quality isn't optimism. It's defiance--going rogue.

Re: Your Daily Dose of Optimism
Yes, I can actually...Marco Rubio and he is much more articulate than Sarah Palin.

I agree with Brian. Marco Rubio is the future of the party.

Here's Rubio.
Re: Your Daily Dose of Optimism
Rubio is pretty impressive. I'm eager to see what course he steers through the Senate over the next several years. I read the other day that he's skipping CPAC this year--after delivering a stirring CPAC address last year which got him a good deal of national attention.

Re: Your Daily Dose of Optimism
That's a wonderful video. When my husband and I got out of college, he had to take out a car loan with a 25% interest rate. We didn't have two nickels to rub together, and it was the Reagan recovery that made getting married possible. We would have had Reagan as the best man if he'd have been willing & available.
I do like Rubio, and I sent him some cash, but he doesn't have Reagan's wit or twinkle. Sarah does, but I agree she can have moments of unfocused off-the-cuff speaking. I'm going to watch Rubio and am very, very hopeful. He's off to a great start.

I think Rubio is wisely settling into his role as Senator. Even though he was already an accomplished politician as Speaker of the Florida State House there is obviously much he feels he needs to get up to speed on in the Senate.
His confidence in his own ability is evident. He is clearly comfortable in his own skin. Since he's already said that he's not running for President...or Vice President...I don't think it's a big deal that he skips CPAC. There will be many moments in the next few years where he will have opportunities to shine.

I agree with you, Sticker. I think Rubio lacks Reagan's magnetism and charisma.

I'm no fan of Rubio's. The guy couldn't wait two seconds before he rushed to a microphone and denounced Arizona's SB1070.
Yeah, he's a pretty boy and smooth talker. Which means he's just another politician.
