That's what Yasin Ekrem Serim, adviser to the General Secretariat of European Affairs in Turkey, called the protesters who on Saturday booed Erdoğan off the arena at the opening of opening ceremony of the Galatasaray football team’s new stadium:

... you are ungrateful... Thanks to whom do you think you can watch a match in that stadium, who built that stadium for you? You rattlebrained idiots.

Fascinating in so many ways.

“We do not consider [the protesters] to be Galatasaray fans,” Polat said, adding that all those who booed the prime minister would be identified using recordings from the arena’s 200 security cameras and would not be allowed to enter the stadium in the future. The chairman also asked the prime minister’s forgiveness for what happened in the Türk Telecom Arena.

I do point out--in case this thought did not immediately occur to you--that the taxpayers built that stadium, not Erdoğan. It's just so telling that this is the vocabulary for which people reach here when something like this happens.

Let's hope his next statement runs along the lines: "You idiot, don't you know who it was that allowed you to buy that pitchfork?"

He's so in the wrong. But I must admit "You rattlebrained idiots" has pizazz.

Curiosity: How do you say "rattlebrained idiots" in Turkish?

Claire, they reach for the same language here when speaking of politicians they want to honor (or suck up to):

Outgoing Detroit mayor gets credit for improvements
Sunday, December 30, 2001
The Associated Press

DETROIT -- Mayor Dennis Archer won't talk about his legacy as he leaves office after eight years, but his fingerprints are on three casinos, two ballparks, two major corporate headquarters relocating downtown and a contract to host the 2006 Super Bowl.
Monday is the last day in office for the former state Supreme Court justice, who in 1994 became the second black mayor of the nation's 10th-largest city.
Archer campaigned on a vision of turning the city around, and some community leaders say he succeeded in laying the foundation for that to happen.
According to city records, Detroit has attracted more than $13 billion in new investment since January 1994.
The Tigers' new stadium, Comerica Park, opened in 2000. The Lions' neighboring stadium, Ford Field, is slated to open for the 2002 season. Three casinos have opened -- MGM Grand Detroit, Motor-City and Greektown.

What he called them was "Gerizekali kuş beyinliler," which literally means "bird-brained idiots."

Ah, so the "rattlebrained" pizazz was added by the translator. Would that be you, Claire? "Rattlebrained" sounds like a good Berlinskiism.

Can't take credit for it, alas.

Gasaray isn't exactly Tayyip's demographic. Would have done better at Beşiktaş, I'm guessing. (Although at this point, maybe not!)
