Ricochet member PEG alerts me to Chris Christie's comments on the New Jersey teachers' union. Follow me if you're flame-retardant -- Christie's spitting fire:
The overall majority of teachers are really good people who care deeply about their kids and want to do a good job. But the teachers' union is about the accumulation and exercise of raw power.

I saw this clip awhile back - great speech! If Chris Christie is an indication of how they're makin' overweight white guys these days, the GOP needs more overweight white guys. He's considerably better than previous models.

If he's not the nominee in 2012, he needs to give the keynote at the convention. Put this guy on prime time.

People like Christie give me hope that we can turn back the overreach of Big Government.

Re: "You Punch Them, I Punch You"
I was fortunate in Seattle in being grandfathered out of having to be in the union until I left and came back. Since then I have been pay, unwillingly, somewhere over $500 per annum in dues to an organization that seems to working in opposition to everything I am trying to accomplish. Like New Jersey, we in Seattle have the same choice, pay full dues or 85%, one hell of a choice. They use my money for their PACs even though I have specifically stated I did not want them to. They fight against the NRA of which I am a Life Member and support Democratic candidates I am wholly against. I would love to see the NEA and its chapters significantly reduced in power. Unfortunately, instead of Christie we have Christine Gregoire, someone who when Attorney General cost the state millions of dollars by misfiling the paperwork in the tobacco company settlement. This is the Soviet Republic of Washington, and it is unlikely to improve.
