The complete investigation of this crime, followed by the international media frenzy, the appropriate UN commissions, and the Turkish severing of diplomatic relations with the perpetrators, no matter who they prove to be.

As a journalist, I look forward to investigating this story. I know the world will be fascinated.

I know that Chechens are Muslims.  Is there something about them that creates ire among some segments of Turkish society?

Tabula, I think Claire's tone is reserved for Russia and its habit of treating certain countries like their own little Hogan's Alley.

Were they transgendered lesbian Zoroastrian Chechens killed by Russian Orthodox priests, masquerading as Russian Intelligence agents, for their beliefs and/or gender disorientation?  If not, methinks you're asking a bit much vis-à-vis  the complete investigation and media frenzy and whatnot.

But I feel your pain.

Why did not the assassination squad use more subtle methods such as Polonium 210 in their mint tea? Or ricin in an umbrella ferrule? How clumsy of the FSB (Cheka/GRU/KGB, or whatever they are now called).

Time for a humanitarian mission from a concerned Turkey to sail up up the Don River, across a canal  built by 100,000 Soviet prisoners of Stalin; and then back down the Volga to help with much needed aid.  Of course the International press will bravely be along side. (It is a pity the Caspian Sea is land locked, it makes running a legal blockade so much harder).

I am sure The Guardian, NYT, LA Times, Agence France Presse, and Al Jazeera will be right on it.

Interesting comment referencing Israel's Mossad in similar circumstances posted to the original Today's Zaman story.  I find it hard to blame nations that seek out and terminate their known terrorists wherever they find them, particularly if the harboring nation overtly protects them.

Budget cuts have hit everyone hard.

On the other hand, whenever Chechens die, one cannot discount the involvement of other Chechens.

This Just In to the Instugator News Service (INS): Without acknowledging whether or not the operation in Turkey was carried out at our behest, we would like to note that our method of dealing with troublesome islamists results in fewer collateral causalities than the American method of same.

Message ends.

Sorry Claire, they came to me and I had to run with the story.

Subtle is reserved for those that understand it.  If the Americans don't get subtle, Americans are Japanese in comparison to Russians.  Russian history is replete with episodes of brutality in order to send a strong message and that means hundreds of years prior to Lenin and his progeny.
