Re: Yankees-Red Sox
Haha Oh, Ursula. We are complete opposites when it comes to sports. The Sox aren't off to a great start here.

Two words: Who cares?
Redlegs 5-1 to start. Long way to go but at least they play real baseball instead of that 10-man game.

I don't agree with Alec Baldwin on much, but he really is of Peter Sellers caliber when it comes to comedic acting. Even in a little commercial. You can't not watch him.

Low blow Mr. Carter. You are now my least favorite conservative president.
EJHill, Real Baseball? Please elaborate.

Why everybody gotta be hatin' on Philly?

I'm sorry, but the DH rule has been around longer than I have been alive and baseball is a game of specialization regardless. It is no virtue to watch people who are nigh incompetent walk up to the plate just to pad the strike out statistics of a man sixty feet and six inches away.
Hating the DH rule is like hating the fielder's glove, the catcher's mask, or the batting helmet. The "sacrifice bunt" is a liberal plot invented to make it seem like pitchers batting makes sense!

Re: Yankees-Red Sox
The very first line in the Official Rules of Baseball:
1.01 Baseball is a game between two teams of nine players each, under direction of a manager, played on an enclosed field in accordance with these rules, under jurisdiction of one or more umpires.
When an AL manager hands in his lineup there are 10 names on it.

Re: Yankees-Red Sox
The Yankees are clearly xenophobic bigots as witnessed by Nick Swisher's cheap shot slide which broke Twin's player Tsuyoshi Nishioka's leg. Is that any way to welcome our Japanese brethren to the Major Leagues?
Face it, the Yankees are getting old...

So has the Department of Energy and Department of Education. They serve no useful function either.

They hate what they cannot understand. However, remember, Ajax, that as true Philly Phans we should not give a [Expurgated under the Ricochet CofC][Expurgated] what [Expurgated][Expurgated][Expurgated] think. Right?

Even though I know he's essentially mocking me, Alec Baldwin is the reason I watch 30 Rock.

@EJHill
The Dept of Energy and Education have never done anything productive or morally virtuous. Edgar Martinez -- of Seattle fame -- was very productive as a DH and he had a strong work ethic.

Had the DH been around Babe Ruth would have never hit. What a loss that would have been.

Re: Yankees-Red Sox
Ursula, thanks for this hilarious video--love it! I agree with etoile and jhimmi about Alec Baldwin. The man is a comic genius.
I lean anti-DH, probably because I've always been a fan of NL teams (Cubs, then Brewers after realignment). But I would prefer to consign the DH to the dustbin of history not by top-down decree, but by improving pitchers' ability to hit (thus making the DH unnecessary/superfluous). Pitchers' utter helplessness at the plate mystifies and angers me. These guys make 10 or 15 million bucks a year, and they can't go spend an hour in the cage a few times a week? Please.

Eventually the Sox will get the message that they aren't particularly good.
