Talk about an unfortunate typo.

A candidate for governor in Illinois was mistakenly listed as "Rich Whitey" instead of Rich Whitney on thousands of Chicago electronic-voting machines.

Possibly making matters worse, about half the wrong ballots are in African-American neighborhoods.

His name is actually Rich Whitney. He's the Green Party candidate for governor.

But on 500 electronic voting machines, the "N" was left off on the page where voters review their picks.
The elections board says the problem will be fixed, but several thousand ballots have already been cast.

Illinois misspelled Rich Whitney's name to read Rich Whitey in African-American neighborhoods and failed to mail many military ballots downstate (read, Republican) in time for the ballots to count. It is so blatantly corrupt in this state that apathy is the norm.

If it's an honest typo, Illinois deserves it.

But Illinois is also the least likely state where this typo would be honest.

They don't call Cook County "Crook County" for nothing.

I didn't know Mitt Romney was running in Illinois.

This was the only logical outcome of the Supremes' ruling in Citizens United.

Now the Man even has the Green Party under his thumb.

They considered "Bich Whitney" but figured Ms Houston might have won.

Actually, that's not a bad description of many green types. See, e.g., Wales, Prince of.

Military ballots, fair enough, but what would be the point of sabotaging a Green Party candidate? Is the idea that the Democrats are worried about a "spoiler" effect from a tiny far-left third party? Do many blacks in Illinois vote Green in the first place? I guess it's possible, but my rule of thumb is never suspect a conspiracy when incompetence is plausible.

In Chicago it's like as not to be a combination of conspiracy and incompetence.

Young Boozer, the Republican candidate for Treasurer in Alabama is also a candidate with a problematic name, and it's not a typographical error.

It seems democracy is dead in Chicago. All the soldiers and Whitney supporters can do is complain and watch it happen again in the next election.

You can't fix a corrupt system by appealing to the corrupt system.
