You may recall that Lakers forward Ron Artest changed his name to Metta World Peace not too long ago. Above you can see how he committed a flagrant foul in the second quarter of Sunday's game by elbowing Oklahoma City's James Harden in the head.
World Peace was ejected from the game.
The Weekly Standard's Richard Starr noted:
"Metta World Peace" revealed to be just like every other flavor of "world peace."

Artest attacked a fan; a fan who weighed perhaps 100 lbs less than this thug. He should have been banned from the game permanently.

I still remember the Chelsea match at which Vinnie Jones broke the record for earliest red card; he was on the wing, right across the field from any action, and kicked off the game by entirely gratuitously booting his opposite number. This almost arises to that level, and I think that the name puts it over.

I'm not a Lakers fan but I kind of like him- when he was in his prime he was one of the best defenders in the game. If he didn't drink at halftime when he was on the Bulls, maybe the start of the millennium wouldn't have been so bad for us.
Yes the name is silly but it would be great if every liberal changed their name to "World Peace" as opposed to making us all fund the U.N. and two-bit dictators in Uzbeki-beki-beki-stan. What's more, he's from Queensbridge where they don't play with a shot clock.

Speaking as a fan of the infamous Lawrence Taylor who (unfortunately/dreadfully) destroyed Joe Theismann's career, I would argue that Artest should have been banished years ago for attacking a civilian.

Beyond the obvious, this is really bad acting. He does something intentionally, and pleads his case - one so incredible that only his staunchest fans would believe. What tells us he is lying? His elbow connects with something very hard - and it's not the floor - and he takes zero notice of it. There is no curiosity and no concern that someone (his teamate?) had been on the receiving end. It's obvious he knew exactly who he wanted to hurt.
I see this happening in politics. Obama is maliciously elbowing his opponents but pretending it's all just part of the game, or an accident- however, how so many of us know it's intentional is by how Obama acts after the fact.

This is the kind of thing that makes me livid in politics. When something is so clear and obvious, and as long as people maintain the fiction, it's considered controversial and an unsettled matter. But at least, these people make themselves known publically as liars and frauds.
