Despicable. Diane what is the context -- from whence does this come?

Disturbingly high production values (right: I know this is the least of what's disturbing about the video, but it's the one area that surprises me the most). I was expecting more of a yellow-subtitles-on-magenta-background kind of aesthetic.

Slipshod propaganda. At least Goebbels could put on a show.

Trace, this from the Israeli news site Haaretz (which seems to be down at the time of this posting):

An Arabic children's choir has been racking up views all over the world with the new YouTube hit "when we die as martyrs, we will go to heaven."

The song was apparently recorded by the Jordanian-owned production company and television channel "birds of Paradise."

According to The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), one of the world's most comprehensive data centers on radical Islamic terrorist groups, the song is a hit on Arabic and worldwide websites and the children's choir performing it fast is becoming one of the most popular children's groups in the Arab world.

Journalist Fawzia Nasir al-Naeem wrote in the Saudi Arabian newspaper Al-Jazirah that "[Birds of Paradise] is one of the most widely distributed children's song groups in the Arab world, and it seems to have crossed the ocean to Canada and Britain."

Wow.

It's ironic that you should post this the same day that this Weekly Standard article claims the U.S. will work with the OIC to criminalize defamation of Islam.

Similarly, I'm most disturbed by the fact that it's a beautiful sounding song. A more pathetic effort would be easier to laugh at. Very, very creepy.

Creepy indeed.  The melody has been stuck in my head all afternoon.  I suppose that helps explains why the song has become such a hit in the Arab world.

It sounds like the kind of music they play at the college pizza shops (while showing soccer on the tv).

Every culture passes its values down to its children; and at times, exploits those same children for agendas beyond their understanding. Is it the message of the video that offends our sensibilities, or its use of children to convey the message?

For me, both offend, and leave me sad.
