I haven't seen any Ricochet discussion over the latest flap out of Wisconsin that's all over the press: a charge by one (liberal) Supreme Court Justice that she was put into a chokehold by a (conservative) colleague. The man accused, David Prosser, is the same judge who was the subject of a large and unsuccessful campaign to defeat him in an election in April in the hopes that a new court would rule against Gov. Scott Walker's reforms.

It appears there was a heated argument among the justices. But since the first account was leaked -- anonymously -- to the press, further reporting quotes others as saying Judge Prusser had put his hands up to defend himself against a colleague who came at him with her fists in the air.

Ann Althouse is on the story, and gives her take here and here. If Mr. Prosser did indeed choke his colleague, he ought to step down. If, however, his colleague on the bench, Ann Walsh Bradley, is not telling the truth, surely she ought to step down. Worth watching.

I'm inclined to believe Prosser for two reasons:

  1. The taboo against a male laying hostile hands on a female - particularly among Prosser's generation - is a powerful thing.
  2. Democrats will tell any lie in order to score a political win.

What struck me is that the story came out weeks after the event and after "the rest of the story" was already known but the reporter made no attempt to tell it.

In other words, the reporter told the story as if it were breaking news and we only had one side of the story.  But, in fact, it had occurred long before and the reporter purposefully ignored Prosser's side.

Smelled like a hit job once I read that. Because I knew if Bradley were actually mistreated even slightly, she would have made a sprint from wherever she was to the local TV station or newspaper office.

They put the lefties in a box, though.  A lot of them immediately called for Prosser to step down, establishing that the aggressor in this case should not serve.  If it turns out that Bradley was the aggressor and it can be proven, they've basically demanded her resignation.

There oughta be a law. Everyone in Wisconsin must carry a gun...except their Supreme Court justices. It would be comical if it weren't so tragic. Is this State a window into the future of America, during the second Civil War?

It shows what the Left has done to the legal profession. Prosser may be uncouth at times, I don't know, but I do know that the Left has contempt for institutions.  If they can't co-opt them, they will destroy them. So, while conservatives worry about precedent and decorum and propriety, the Left goes into full destruct mode.

Eventually, precedent, decorum, propriety and then the institution itself are obliterated.

The dissent in that opinion was a disgrace, it was idiocy, partisanship and petulance on steroids.

We really need to here from the Ricochet Legal Beagles on this.  How can you have a trial when the defendant, the alleged victim, and all the witnesses are Supreme Court Justices?

I have read Ann Althouse blog regarding this story and as more information is leaking it appears that its not looking good for Ms. Bradley.  The big question Ann is asking is who are the anonymous sources and how realible are they.  One of the most damining allegations against Ms. Bradley is that the alleged incident occured in front of the other justices and after the "incident" she made a statement to the effect that Prosser "choked" her to which one of the witness replied that he did not.  Once this detail was released after the intial story it seems that the hit piece is suffering from some blowback.    It appears that there may be an internal investigation going on as well.

It seems that a Clarence Thomas rework is at the theater.  Looking forward to the reviews.

I do not expect them to be consistent. Feminists never are. There is one sauce for the goose and another for the gander.

For those of you not from Wisconsin or following this story closely. the "Justice" alleging this against Justice Prosser has previously made allegations against Justice Prosser. She previously stated, just in time for Prosser's election, that he called another justice a 'bitch'.

Based upon this prior incident, Ann Althouse's extensive analysis, the shameful behavior of the left in this state and nationally - she is lying. Andrew Breitbart could offer another $100,000 reward and there would be just as many takers as there was for the 'N**ger" reference during the healthcare vote.

If the Left does not extend the call to resign to Justice Bradley for a false charge or if no assalt charges are pressed, you'll have confirmation they are lying. These 'when did you stop beating your wife charges' will come to be yet another weapon in their arsenal, like the race card, unless it is exposed & punished.

This sounds like a job for Andrew Breitbart.

Apparently, Prosser did call the CJ a "bitch": http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/118310479.html

You have to be suspicious of any allegation like this against Prosser because conservatives as a group are not known to resort to violence and try to lie their way out of it.  Bradley, on the other hand, is a liberal.  We know one thing about all liberals — they lie.  And a good number of them become violent when they don’t get their way.  Unless there is more evidence, Prosser gets the benefit of the doubt.

There won’t be more evidence.  All accounts say there were 4 other justices in the room besides Prosser and Bradley.  If Prosser had actually put his hands around her neck they would all be saying so.  Liberals circle the wagons, conservatives throw their bad actors to the dogs.

How long until Obama nominates Bradley to the fed appeals court or even the Supreme Court?

Prosser has actually admitted to saying to a fellow Justice, 'You are a total bitch,' according to the Journal Sentinel. 'I probably overreacted, but I think it was entirely . . . warranted. They (Abrahamson and Bradley) are masters at deliberately goading people into perhaps incautious statements.

It strains credulity that he 'choked' Bradley; but, claiming that someone else forced your name calling is puerile.  These are State Supreme Court justices acting like children.  Too bad for the citizens of Wisconsin.

Cut the guy some slack.  Just imagine the nonsense this poor man must put up with day in and day out from these insane pinko harpies?  My Goodness.  If the B-word is the worst of his sins the man is a saint!

Age: Prosser 69, Ann Walsh Bradley 61

Height: Apparently Bradley is quite a bit taller and larger than Prosser. Hard for a shorter person to strangle a taller person.

Nobody called the cops. How come? If you were strangled by someone wouldn't you call the cops?

I know he's a guy but this is the age of equality. As many online videos attest women are can assault people just like guys.

Ricochet had framed this oddly. Prosser seems guilty unless proven innocent.

It could be framed like this: Sixty-nine year old Wisconsin Justice defends himself against an unprovoked attack by fellow Justice.

There were several witnesses, all Justices.

There is an interesting context on this since they were arguing about releasing information on a decision to the public and the liberal justices wanted to conceal information.

The Dane County Sheriff David Mahoney is the lead investigator. There is some talk of a special prosecutor. Legal Insurrection thinks one of these two Justices will soon be history.

I really don't understand why people would be down on Prosser if he choked her. If someone takes a swing at you, you put them on the ground. Thought that was self-defense 101.
