Will "Fast and Furious" Ever Get Iran-Contra Sized Attention?
It seems to me the mainstream media has a Code of Conduct rule against mentioning the Fast and Furious controversy involving the Obama administration allowing guns to “walk” into Mexico so they could track them, only to lose track of those guns and have them turn up in killings.
Obama spied, people died.
The right has had to put up with leftist babble and mythology for years, like “the government puts drugs in urban areas” and “the government invented or didn’t stop AIDS to kill gays.”
Here is a real story with actual government involvement in gun running that killed people.
Now it turns out that Fast and Furious may not have been alone. Have you heard of “Operation Castaway?”
Congressman Gus Billirakis, R-Fla has requested information from Attorney General Eric Holder about a program that looks eerily like Fast and Furious, only it focuses on Central America.
Note this awful detail:
Court documents from the Operation Castaway takedown claim that at least five firearms from the illegal sales of the main suspect ended up later being connected to crimes, several in Puerto Rico. One pistol was recovered in Columbia after being used in a homicide.
What I should be seeing on television this morning is a running and repeated narrative - that a Special Prosecutor should be appointed (remember special prosecutors?).
Instead, what I’ve repeatedly heard this morning on television is that J-Lo is on her 3rd divorce, this time from husband Mark Anthony, his second.
I’m not sure how to start a news wave. I’m stunned it hasn’t started yet. What will it take?

What will it take for a scandal to get traction in the MSM?
Simple:
A Republican Administration.

This would distract from the Democrats' campaign to smear Republicans with the debt ceiling situation. If Republicans can arrange a series of press conferences on this scandal and get them covered on Fox News, then there might be a bonus to pursuing justice.

The Justice Department has blood on its hands. Those families affected need to file a suit against Holder and company. It might bring the scandal to the attention of the media, or maybe not, but justice will be done.

I think we should stop hoping the MSM will accurately report to us. Some stories, some issues are "off limits" to them.
The many checks in a free society - media, literature, churches, academia - are now not only partial to very progressive thought but are now dependent upon government to one degree or another. (I think Mark Steyn said that once)
Institutions, like voters, are unlikely to bite the hands that feed them.

Re: Will "Fast and Furious" Ever Get Iran-Contra Sized Attention?
It will take persistence. I've been quite surprised by the number of internet savvy news junkie liberal friends (just about every conservative seems to know about it) who haven't heard of it at all. What really works is simply to ask them periodically if they have heard of "gunwalker" or "fast and furious", throw in a few tantalizing bits like "2000 guns" or "150 dead mexican police" and encourage them to google it themselves.
Obamaphilia is, I think, a psychological condition in which the sufferer has built a wall bewteen reality and themselves by projecting their idealism onto a dangerously incompetent leader. To break that wall it first needs to be cracked, and that works best with the cooperation of the believer. Many liberals are justifiably suspicious of the ATF, the DoJ, and corrupt governance gaining power on legislating morality through social fears. But they don't read outside their own reservations. This story is an ideal one to help them do that.

I'm hoping this will be like the John Edwards scandal: ignored by the legacy gatekeepers until they find themselves in a position where it's just so embarrassing to have to report the indictments without the backstory that they break down and actually start reporting - at least, in the margins of the spin.
Having said all that, where is the best place to read about this now - an explanation of the timeline and the players, Fast&Furious v Gunrunner v Castaway, etc.?

Not sure about Castaway, but Big Government has covered the other well.

Obama apologists who call conservative talk shows are particularly illustrative. They didn't yet get Debbie Wassername's memo that they own the economy. He isn't failing, but if he is, it's because he inherited it and because we wanted him to fail because we hate black people. Slight variations on an endlessly repeating theme.

If you're still holding onto the premise that the "mainstream" media really do want to report all the news, honestly and fairly, no matter the ideological agenda ... well, I've dropped that premise like a bad habit. I gave up on the media.
The media are not honest brokers of information. Period.

Perhaps AG Holder will take full responsibility for this. You know, the way Janet Reno did for Waco.

If the National Enquirer found a Fast and Furious gun in the trunk of Casey Anthony's car....
Nah. Still wouldn't do it.

Re: Will "Fast and Furious" Ever Get Iran-Contra Sized Attention?
What would it take?
It would the leadership of the GOP - including the leading presidential candidates - making a big deal out of it.
So far they ain't. Yeah, a couple people have come down to congress to testify but otherwise crickets. This needs to be brought up at every presidential campaign stump speech and every time a member of congress gets near a member of the so-called press.
I don't see that happening. This is something Donald Trump would have a field day with if he wanted. I can't see Romney doing that. It would make for some testy luncheons with friends across the aisle later. Can't have that.
And the others don't seem interested either. So chalk this up as yet another democrat scandal the GOP can't be bothered to go after.

Re: Will "Fast and Furious" Ever Get Iran-Contra Sized Attention?
If one round, not even a handgun mind you, found its way to a militia member then this would be national news. Eric Holder needs to be investigated by a special prosecutor. His lying during Mr Issa's grilling of him was blatant. The clear obstruction is typical for this above the law racist progressive ideologue but here it is being done to prevent being caught as the mastermind behind this failed and deadly scheme.
As a big supporter of our second amendment rights I have been very interested in this case. There is little doubt Mr Obama was aware of this end run which of course would be used to further regulate our rights all in the name of our own safety. Mr "nation of cowards" Holder needs to be crucified over this. The only way I see this not evolving will be if threats or coercion remove it from Mr Issa's plate.

What?! J-Lo and Marco Antonio are no more? ¡Ay ay ay!

Re: Will "Fast and Furious" Ever Get Iran-Contra Sized Attention?
Iran - Contra was a very cool operation. I thought it was nicely setup, benefited everyone targeted for impact, and solved multiple problems.
The cover stories in a hostile media world were the only flaw.
You see, if the media is on your side, then you can get away with anything. Selling guns to M-13, be accessory to the deaths of your own agents, endanger thousands, kill hundreds of locals with guns bought to incite a public relations anecdote to limit gun sales ??
Astounding that this story doesn't get legs. But then again, this is the story that could take down the DOJ, ATF, DHS, FBI, and maybe Potus. They're buying ink by the barrel and cement by the truckload. They would be dumping this story into the bridge foundation on the 405 if they could.
It's up to all this new media we play with to get real and push this story out so far, that everyone hears about it, just not from Geo ,Brian, Keith, Chris, et al.
