I've been asking people who I know are Romney supporters if they are enthusiastic about voting in the upcoming election, and so far all have indicated that they are more intent on voting this time than ever before.

This got me wondering:  Are you experiencing the same enthusiasm (about voting for Romney, whether you feel it for him personally or not), and do you sense that conservatives are going to turn out in unprecedented numbers in November?

This is my most enthusiastic negative vote of all time. Nothing comes close. I did vote for Reagan in 84 which was the most positive. I have no respect for this entire administration nor anyone who thinks Obama is good.

I think we're more enthusiastic than we were in 2008...

But yes, I know too many people who, while not liking Romney much, want ANYONE over Barry, even at the risk of Romney turning into another Bush.

there's growing enthusiasm for obama from his base because he has moved to the left in this election.

there's little excitement for romney, but people are pumped to vote against obama. so if there is a third party candidate, the anti-obama vote will be split, and obama will be a sure winner in november.

If this is framed as a referendum against Obama, it doesn't matter how enthusiastic Obama's base are, if voters think he isn't doing a good job, he'll lose the election.

But if Obama somehow manages to turn this into a Choice election...

Yes, absolutely. But I expect Obama has some cards he's holding for the fall. And I think one of them is Hillary as VP. I hope Romney is anticipating this and has a plan that will discourage her from considering Obama's invitation to the ticket.

Obama has the Hillary card. Romney -> Christie.

I can't help but recollect the 2004 election. I knew so many people on the left who just haaaaaated Bush. Anybody but Bush, they cried. No more blood for oil. Bush is destroying America. Stop this, stop that, Bush this, Bush that.

Not one of them was excited about John Kerry.

I just can't get that nagging feeling out of my stomach that Obama is our Bush and Romney is our Kerry.

2004 turned was a choice election: Stay the Course (in Iraq) Bush, or Get Out ASAP (Kerry). The voters made the right choice back then.

Will enthusiasm decide the 2012 election? Maybe. But it didn't decide the 2010 senate race in Nevada.

Thus far I agree with Mr. Bildo. I don't think Gov. Romney wins on a platform of 'I am not Barack Obama'. It didn't work for Kerry and I doubt will work now.

The most enthusiastic people on the campaign trail are the Tea Party/Libertarian/Ron Paul supporters. I don't believe these folks are going to turn out and work to elect Romney unless we/they are voting For something, not just against the current admin.

Whether you support the Tea Party or not is OK, but without them the electoral and popular math do not add up. While I am confident this group will vote for Mr. Romney, donating money, dialing phones, volunteering, ground game etc. is what is needed to win this election.

How Mr. Romney's team and the Republican convention handle Ron Paul's exit and support of Tea Party backed candidates down the ticket will have a lot to do with how much enthusiasm there is for Mr. Romney.

Romney is definitely getting better at creating enthusiasm, and probably will continue to improve.  But what makes me enthusiastic is the opportunity to rid ourselves of the worst president since James Buchanan.

If there's one thing I'm willing to say about Mitt Romney, he's more decisive than John McCain.

I will say this: Romney's speech last weekend had a profound effect on me. I hope to write up my thoughts later but I thought that was a magnificent speech.

Obama can't win it, but Romney could lose it. It probably depends on how expertly Romney responds to the avalanche of mud--well-timed--that will no doubt fall on his head. Romney will need a calm resolve to survive it.

I cannot say about others, but for my own part, I intend to vote for Romney regardless of the campaigns and whatever else occurs between now and November.

The current crowd of left-wing totalitarian mandarins HAS to have their hands jerked from the levers of power if the Republic is to have any chance of surviving.

A determined and conservative Congress is equally essential.  But, getting the "government by decree" crowd out of the White House and the seats of bureaucratic power is the critical thing.

Romney has to run as Eddie Haskell - the guy who's genetically unable to countenance corruption and waste.

If the election were held today and it depended on enthusiasm for Mitt Romney, he might well lose. If it were held today and it was a referendum on Barack Obama, he would lose. If Romney gives people a reason to vote for him, if he lays out a genuinely conservative program, if he promises to roll back the administrative entitlements state, if he presents himself as a resolute and courageous defender of religious, political, and economic liberty, he will win a landslide. His past performance makes me skeptical, but I would not rule out his rising to the occasion. He may be a chameleon, but he may also recognize what the circumstances demand. Chameleons usually do, and let's face it: Barack Obama is doing everything he can to force Romney to take a firmly conservative line.

I plan to write in a protest vote in our primary. I was going to vote Ron Paul (as a protest). ABO in the general and the Repub. realize this, while also realizing that most conservatives actually vote. Thus, they are just not into us. I realize more and more that Republicans are part of the problem and the only way for a citizen to actually accomplish anything is by their vote. I am so proud of conservatives (mostly the tea party) who are showing the Republicans we are not going to just take it any more (as they supposedly wonder why there is enmity towards incumbents).
We recently started a financial transaction that was a punch in the jaw and reminded me that all of these assaults to our liberty have grown and grown with aid from both parties. This horror story labyrinth wasn't created in four years. Romney will help give us breathing room but if he's not an actual reformer he is just like a Democrat in the long run.

I'm voting in this election with the same enthusiasm I have for cleaning the cat's box.  It's a dirty job, but it must be done.

Rob Long

This is the crucial question, isn't it?  Conservatives will probably turn out for Mitt -- they always do -- but a wave of genuine enthusiasm can carry along some of the independents/undecideds.
