Why Does Chris Christie Send His Kids To Private School? "It's none of your business!"

I'm curious what all of our professional and arm chair political advisors here on Ricochet think of Chris Christie's answer to a question from a voter.
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
While I'm down with his ultimate answer and on some level appreciate his honesty, I thought the opening was a bit too aggressive in the delivery. I foresee this answer manipulated in Democrat sounbite commercials for the rest of his career.
So what political advice would you give the Governor? Throttle down, or keep on racing?

The last politicians I recall dealing brusquely with voters were Pete Stark responding to a constituent who told him not to "[urinate] on my leg and tell me it's raining" by saying "I wouldn't waste the urine."
Christie's response differs greatly: Gail was making a false point that only those whose kids are in public school should have a say in how public schools run, and implying that Christie sending his kids to private school was somehow not kosher. Christie was right on all three counts:
1) It's not up to Gail to tell him he can't send his kids to parochial school -- after all, they aren't going to get religious instruction at public school.
2) Christie personally has "skin in the game" to the tune of $38K a year and has the right to demand value for that money in the form of well-educated public school graduates.
3) Christie has the responsibility of office to oversee the education of all NJ students in public schools on behalf of all other taxpayers and the students' parents.
Maybe his style plays better in Jersey, but it beats all hell out of obsequiousness.

One word: AWESOME.
Re: Why Does Chris Christie Send His Kids To Private School? "It's none of your business!"
He pays $38,000 a year in property taxes.
I'd like to know what all you non-Jersey folk think of that number.
I constantly have to remind myself why I still live here. Government is a hungry beast in the Garden State.

Full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes! I love watching this guy put the hammer down. From the sound of it, he probably gets asked this a lot in his scuffles with the teacher's union...

What is his house appraised for? I can't judge unless I know what the assessment base is.

Those on the right have "throttled down" to liberals with personal agendas, read: union, and government dependence, for some 50 years. It's time some people spoke the truth. Throttle down, no, hit them again harder.

Here's a picture of it. Not exactly a mansion. $3200 a month just to live in your own house is government gone nuts.

Not exactly a mansion? That house is huuuuge (ginormous, even). $3200 per month is government gone nuts, but if that's not a mansion then it's only a hair off the mark.

Zillow says that homes of that size in that township are listed for over $3,000,000. His house price is about 4 times mine and he pays 5 to 6 times what I do in property taxes, so it seems pretty steep.

Don't be fooled by clever NJ builders. I'm betting that whole large section on the right is just garage.
The house isn't actually all that large.

Chris Christie's garage is bigger than my house.

Ha! I believe it!
Even still, that sucker is at least three finished floors (probably more with a basement).

Re: Why Does Chris Christie Send His Kids To Private School? "It's none of your business!"
Tone matters. Chris Christie is absolutely correct, and clearly within his rights to give that response.
He is also obviously not running for president, and it is a good thing because Americans West of Camden have little tolerance for the constant in-your-face manner of the Northeast, what the Sainted Dave Carter refers to as "The Land of The Middle Finger" when chronicling his trucking adventures.
How many videos or quotes can you find where Reagan confronted people that way, no matter what the question? He would grin, or crack a joke, not swing the billy club. It is too wearing and tiring to see bombast all day- it gets very old very fast. Is that the inspiring leadership we are looking for?
And that is what I wonder about on the Right. Most of the comments above this one are almost ravenously seeking more, looking for blood, as though seeing the questioners get torn into is the goal. Is that what we really want or need?
I don't want to see Obama crawl or be humiliated, I just want him gone and his policies overturned- and I don't think that this is how you accomplish that.

The size of Christie's house is none of Y'all's business.
Re: Why Does Chris Christie Send His Kids To Private School? "It's none of your business!"
Who was the last President of the United States to send a child to public schools? Hint: He was a Democrat, and it did not work out all that well.

Re: Why Does Chris Christie Send His Kids To Private School? "It's none of your business!"
I have to disagree. Totally unnecessary, especially since he went ahead and answered her question. If only he had done just that. Say nothing else if you claim it's none of her business. And then, at the end, "With all due respect ... it's none of your business" ... jeez. Why does he feel the need to thump her again after he's made all the relevant points? All he does is make her look good, which as everyone above has pointed out, is really too bad because her question was dimwitted and intentionally confrontational. He should not have taken the bait. I think it will follow him around. If it was Anthony Weiner saying this, I'd think he was a chump, so why give Christie a pass for incivility?

Paul- I believe you refer to Amy Carter, who is as nutty as her father.
Leslie- exactly.
