Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?

I'm assuming that most Ricochet members listen to 'Talk Radio.' I'm an avid listener (I've turned into my Dad/Aunt). Of the syndicated national programs, who are your favorites & why? If you were to recommend a show to someone in the hopes of changing their views, who would you recommend? Which conservative hosts do you like least? Which host/s do you find overrated-least effective? (There just hasn't been enough in-fighting on the Right.)

Prager- he's just plain good.
Bennett- he's on when I'm driving to work and seems like a genuinely good man.
Beck- good entertainment.

Where I live, people bray all the time. It's their natural diction. I would never seek more of it, on a radio or anywhere else.

Dennis Miller is entertaining and funny.

Tom, I have three Ricochet Member Feed links for you. Here's one from Kenneth, with some great ensuing discussion:

And here is Franco's:

Here's one from me, explaining why Michael Medved is the best of the lot (and why Savage is the worst):

I haven't listened to Medved for five years--I don't think he's aired in my area--and he may not be the same as I remember.

sawatdeeka - thanks for the links (I thought I was being original). Didn't realize this topic had already been so chewed over.

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
Dennis Prager - a thorough Biblical scholar and respectful interviewer; and Larry Elder, one of the quickest, sharpest political minds on the radio, has a great sense of humor and is again always respectful of his guests.

I'll second t-monk in nominating Dennis Miller. He's funny, thoughtful, and a thorough entertainer.

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
If I'm up early enough its Bill Bennett's Morning in America for the intellect.
Mid morning it would be Mike Gallagher the Happy Conservative Warrior until he goes off the rails as he sometimes does.
Late afternoon Dennis Praeger for his guests, his insights, his desire for clarity over agreement and his ultimate desire to teach logical, conservative, Judeo/Christian ideals.
Michael Med-V as in Victory-ed for his take on everything from politics to pop-culture on my drive to work.
And for the drive home at night Dennis Miller whose sardonic wit is quite appealing.

I like Medved, followed by Prager. I also like Bennett when I catch him, but he is on too early here. I very much dislike the caustic, shrill, gratuitous Mark Levin. Don't usually care for Rush. Hugh Hewitt is okay most times, but is often just a partisan hack. Gallagher seems the least intelligent of the lot and uses the weakest logic in making his arguments. Michael Savage I don't consider a conservative and I find him generally a despicable person. Hannity is purely a partisan hack and is actually on the air only about 6 minutes an hour it seems, the rest being filled with ads, recorded intros and bumper music.

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
Dennis Miller is on radio? I've been wondering what happened to him.
1) Dennis Prager -- life-changing. He's part of the reason I started to take my faith seriously. He's helped me understand men a little better. He is a model for how to stay cool and drill down on a topic.
2) Hugh Hewitt -- *best* *interviewer* *evah*! I'm sometimes shocked and disappointed at how moderate he is! Heh. Guess maybe that reveals more about me than him.
3) Michael Medved -- love his history specials. I can only take his callers in small doses, though, and he sometimes concedes too much. I'm very frustrated by his inability or unwillingness to identify the president as a leftist (Marxist, socialist, statist, whatevah!) in a way which doesn't offend other leftists. Dennis is much better at this.
Local talent: Mike Rosen, especially on economics; Richard Randall on personal finance.

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
The two I enjoy most are the two I can't seem to find on the dial since moving to Austin.
Dennis Prager offers such a great world-view that you just feel better when you listen to him. He is like the anti-Savage. I love that he hosted conservative "singles nights". That's building up the base the old fashioned way.
Hugh Hewiit- My political intellectuality came of age post-9/11 listening to Hugh on 860 in LA. He's been discounted above as being too much of a partisan. I wouldn't argue with that. I also don't fault him for that either. I think here at Ricochet we spend so much time proving our theological purity that we ignore some of the nastier aspects of politics, the getting elected and governing part. We can be as intellectual as we want. But putting your money where your mouth is and running for office is where the real action happens. He actively supporting races around the country that we have a chance winning, or saving that will at least help gain/ retain a Republican vote.
And I echo the Dennis Miller nod. A real joy.

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
Tom Sullivan on Fox News Talk. Sullivan is never obnoxious, does not call names and does not criticize irrelevancies. However you can hear the disbelief and frustration in his voice when discussing the President or White House staff. He offers reasoned analysis from a financial basis yet is manner is lighthearted and he never has to shout down or turn off someone with an opposing viewpoint. He is happy to deflate the left's arguments with carefully chosen questions. It's a pity his show is on during work hours as I rarely catch it.
Does satellite radio count?

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
Glen Beck. I find him funny and informative, and I simply tune out the bits that are too far over-the-top. And - just in case Humza happens to see this - Beck makes a clear distinction between Muslims who are our enemies and the majority who aren't.
Rush Limbaugh. He's good, and he has an impact.
Mark Steyn. He's the only guest host for Limbaugh that I don't immediately tune out.
I've heard brief clips of the Dennis Miller show. It was good, but I've never remembered to look for more. Maybe I should do that now, since I'm thinking of it...
Dislikes? The Mark Levin show is or was available for free on iTunes. I gave it a try. It turns out I don't like being yelled at for quite that long. Now I know.
Michael Savage. Years ago I heard that he tended to refer to Mexicans as "mud people". That's all I need to hear, not interested.
Hannity. Hey, I hear his TV show is really good! Radio why?

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
I assume this is our favorite host besides Rush. In that case, it's Jason Lewis . He talks about things I am most interested in - economics, law, and policy - from a conservative/libertarian perspective. I learn more from his show than any other show out there.

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
I'll listen to Savage - he's the most entertaining and I enjoy his energy level in denouncing the President. Laura Ingraham is excellent. Glenn Beck is a shyster charlatan whose overblown emotion and dramatization of absolutely everything resembles a tent revivalist who blows into town to perform some faith healing and then splits with granny's jar full of quarters.

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
Whoa! No love for John Batchelor. Kenneth suggested him a month or so ago and I'm a huge fan. He has peerless interviewing skills, has a subtle sense of humor, is always well-informed, and the subjects are varied. Treat yourself, but listen for a few days. The fact that you don't hear braying may scare you off. You'll be hooked.
I love Prager for his point of view and his passion. My only knock is that he's not a great interviewer. Doesn't let his guests talk enough. Listen to Batchelor purely for his talent for interviewing. Back to Prager: he seems like the kind of guy I'd like to hang with.
Non-political radio. Dan Patrick has the best general sports talk show around. He and his sidekicks are great. And (God bless him) he always avoids politics.

Re: Who's Your Favorite Radio Host And Why?
I'll second that - followed by Rush, himself, followed by Hugh Hewett (I agree his interviews are the best). I listen by paid podcasts, and don't have time for more. I just dropped Laura Ingraham for that reason, though I do like her.
Oh, and Mark Levin (free podcasts!) - I can only take him in small doses - he is very smart, and I mostly agree with him, but his style is a little grating (though I do like it when he insults Liberals ;-).
The only ones I don't like are the other guest hosts for Rush - I skip those podcasts.
If I had to pick only one, and the best at converting Liberals, it would be Rush.

I'm a big fan of Mike Rosen. He was the local right-of-center talk show host I grew up listening to on KOA 850 in Denver. I still turn on the radio to hear him (and the great radio station KBCO for music) when I go back home for visits.
I just like radio, period. I'll listen to UFO call-in shows or anything else when I'm driving. Great medium.
