Whispering Sweet Nothings

All seemed well, until she called for a return to 1775 borders . . .
ok, so the joke is getting old. But there's something about this trip that rankles me.
Perhaps because it's like watching a sneak preview of the Clinton post-presidency: Europeans going nuts over a Democratic president whose record doesn't merit the rock-star treatment.

Re: Whispering Sweet Nothings
On vacation in the land he insulted repeatedly, sitting next to the Queen herself. I hope she slapped him.

As a loyal British subject and a proud American citizen, I can say that for the first time in my life I am ashamed of my adopted country, that they could elect such an idiot.
He couldn't even get the toast right. (this is a big deal in the UK - toasts).
Mrs Obama didn't do much better.

Re: Whispering Sweet Nothings
What's annoying is that the Presidential [expletive deleted] doesn't seem to spend much time in the White House actually working (/= being on television, or doing other "social" things).

"OK Queenie, which one of my speeches on that iPod I gave you is your favorite? You know, I can have my staff help you download the books that I wrote about myself on there for you, its better than reading - you can hear my voice..."

This administration has absolutely no sense of protocol. I have yet to recover from Michelle Obama's diplomatic faux pas in greeting the Queen (last visit) with a hug. And to think how they maligned George W. for patting the shoulders of Angela Merkel...

That was "The King's Speech" - he had a human teleprompter.
The Queen was in that movie, as a young girl - she made it through the War, greeted many great US Presidents, enjoyed Condi Rice playing the piano, suffered Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and now she has to suffer Mr Obama... she has the patience of a Saint.

Re: Whispering Sweet Nothings
Well, at least Neither Obama nor Michelle vomited on the Queen or the PM.
As for Michelle's fashion choices ---- I am so used to seeing her dressed like a clown it doesn't even faze me anymore. Not many women on the planet are going to be viewed favorably by comparison when standing next to Kate Middleton, so I have to cut her a break there.

Re: Whispering Sweet Nothings
Thing is, Europe doesn't especially matter except as a vacation destination. A darned snazzy vacation destination, to be sure. A stage set, as Rob might say. It's so over.
The only people who think it matters are working on the editorial boards of newspapers that are in a race to irrelevancy with their Euro-pals. You'll notice that Obama got credit for forging a mighty coalition, smaller than Bush's coalition by every measure but one: Obama's included France. Nay further, it was assembled by France. Having gotten a good look at French values of late, we get the sense that the Establishment Press is somewhat out of the mainstream in their francophilia.
So I guess the adulation of Europe isn't top of my list of goals or peeves.

Let me get this straight. He had a few pints of Guinness in the pub, and then he went to meet the Queen, and botched the toast.
Good Lord! Maybe he is Irish after all ...

Ha ha! You think it was perhaps a deliberate "[allusion to expletive deleted] you" to the Queen? Did you check out the photos to see if his stealth middle finger is in use? He loves to pull that oh-so-subtle move.
There is much to be suspicious of in Obama's background. I think his Irish roots (though far removed and a tiny piece of his ethnic make-up) are one of the only things I'm certain are authentic.

Re: Whispering Sweet Nothings
I find the contrast to be profoundly deppressing. Our President gratuitously insults the UK for 2 1/2 years and yet is recieved with amazing grace and sophistication. The contrast between classless and classy could not be more stark. I am sure he doesn't even see it.

Kennedy-Smith, you rebel colonist you. Britain is NOT Europe. Please review this educational message from one of our podcast contributors and then 50 lashes with President Obama's shoelace from the last foot he put in his mouth.

Yabbut Ireland is. Britain is merely doomed. Cameron's no Thatcher, and I don't see a way out for them. Embracing the darkness.
