Last month I wrote a long profile of Charles and David Koch for The Weekly Standard. By telling the story of their decades-long involvement in business, public policy, and medical, educational, and cultural philanthropy, I hoped to refute some of the more ridiculous things liberals say about these billionaire owners of Koch Industries. Not for the first time, liberals totally missed the point.

They've gone on making blatantly false statements about the Kochs and their company. They've continued to describe Charles and David like the brothers are members of the Borg collective. Keeping up with the war against the Kochs is a full-time job. And I already have a job.

Fortunately, there are diligent and knowledgeable people on the case. Read John Hinderaker for the latest updates on the "paranoid style in liberal politics." Or visit KochFacts.com, where employees of Koch Industries wage a quixotic battle against media nonsense. For example, since my piece in the Standard was published, the New York Times has printed two articles filled with easily checkable errors. You'd think writers would pick up the phone. But then some "facts" are just too good to check. ...

During the Obama speech today, John Podhoretz tweeted:

This speech is like a paid ad for "Atlas Shrugged: The Movie."

Matthew Continetti ·"... liberals totally missed the point...." Not really.  They are unconcerned with facts.  They are following the standard playbook of isolating and demonizing the opposition, so that they may be able to point to a villain as they stir up the uninformed.  To the left, that is the point. The left understands that most people prefer to have their math and politics served up to them in neat packages, whereas the right always has to rely upon painstaking explanation and fact-based assertion.  Makes for a tough contest.

This is why, where the Koch brothers are concerned, I think it'd be funny to act as if we are all part of a big-business cabal.

Think of the time it would save! When a leftist brings up the Koch brothers, act perturbed, clam up, and scurry away as if they've uncovered some secret. How many worthwhile conversations has anyone had with conspiracy theorists who inject the Koch brothers into every conversation, anyway?
