As much as I like this picture -- especially the genial look on Reagan's face as he bluffs his way into Abe Lincoln's wallet -- I keep asking myself: Where's Calvin Coolidge?

Where's Cal?

I think it's time for a Coolidge Revival. We need to remind ourselves about the value of less talk, small government, and politicians who refused to act like rock stars.

And one more thing: look closely at Nixon in the corner. I think he's cheating.

Coolidge Revival? Just point me to the revival tent. I'll bring a tambourine -- a quiet one, since they don't make them silent.

It's obvious if you look closely at the piece that Coolidge was originally shown standing in the space across from Lincoln. There's a smudge at... shoot, I don't even know enough about art to make this a good joke :)

Actually, I think Cal cashed in his chips so he could get to bed early.

I used the think that Coolidge was a bit of a drip, but as I gain experience and wisdom I find I "misunderestimated" the guy. I need to be swept up in the revival!

This painting reminds me how much I liked Gerry Ford. Perhaps it was his Coolidge-like qualities, eh?

I am all for this idea. One of my favorite books, 'The Quotable Calvin Coolidge: Sensible Words for a New Century'. Some examples....

"Collecting more taxes than is absolutely necessary is legalized robbery."

"Don't expect to build up the weak by pulling down the strong."

"If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you."

"Perhaps one of the most important accomplishments of my administration has been minding my own business."

I love it when Silent Cal wasn't so silent....

Nixon may be cheating, but T. R. is trying to get a look at his hand...okay, so what's the joke that Abe just told?

Huzzah for Silent Cal! This painting is better than the one of them shooting pool, though.

I was gonna ask what's going on under the table (that's how the dogs used to cheat). Then thought maybe that wasn't PG. Thankfully, there's no Bubba, so that question passes muster.

I've seen this picture (and its Democratic counterpart) in a few art shops where I live in South Carolina, and prints are for sale. I always assumed it was a local artist. I will investigate, and post more in this thread if anyone is interested in getting a print.

A Calvin Coolidge revival in a Lady GaGa culture? Owww...how much cognitive dissonance could one nation stand?

Hmmm...maybe Cal's left out because he wasn't down with the card playing (or smoking). But now, Warren G. he should totally be in there.
