Where Are Our Loud-Mouthed Celebrities?
I just did an interview with a nice lady from HumanEvents.com who wondered why Jewish celebrities, like the Israeli-born Natalie Portman, didn't turn up for the pro-Israel rally in LA this weekend. Only the courageous Jon Voight was there - and Arnold Schwarzenegger, very much to his credit. I, of course, couldn't speak for Portman and her ilk, but it's a good question, isn't it? Where's Woody "Obama should be a dictator" Allen when it comes time to stand up for Israel's sliver of democracy in the sea of Islamic oppression? All these politically active celebs, and not one could show up for the Jews? Well, it's not hard to guess that at least part of the reason is that the left has gone down the rabbit hole on this one and Jewish celebrities have to keep their mouths shut to stay in with the cool kids. Not to mention off the Hollywood blacklist.

It's a very delicate balancing act -- you have to be to the right of Helen Thomas but to the left of the commandos. Facebook is full of contorted logic. The funniest is that people seem to want to tag Thomas as being "just like Glenn Beck and Pat Buchanan!" It's a little comical to try to explain to a liberal Jew tied up in knots that actually Beck and Buchanan are pro-Israel and Thomas is espousing an extreme left-wing view.

Is it possible that left-wing Jewsish celebrities are fully aware that anti-Israel sentiment is now essential to true-believing leftists, and so they have made a conscious and sincere prioritizing of loyalties: leftism over Israel?

Re: Where Are Our Loud-Mouthed Celebrities?
In defense of the very hot Natalie Portman (call me!), she is not the first to my mind among the usual suspects of Hollywood Loud-Mouthery. I was about to add a plea of (relative) poverty too, not having seen her since 2005's V for Vendetta, but a quick check of IMDb shows plenty of work. Being blissfully ignorent of her politics, she may have done some private charity (homeland-wise) as well.
As to the "blacklist", now that my chances with Natalie are secure (as ever), I think we still have yeoman's work to do, just to prove (to the greater public) that it exist. It does and Mr. Klavan is among the vanguard in that fight. Here (IMO) is where we need to recruit some Loud-Mouthed Celebrities. Here is also where we as consumers should raise our voice. Voting with our dollars among limitied choices is great but we also ought to demand better products to choose from. There is such a thing as "Fair Trade Coffee", why not "Free Trade Hollywood"? It's to all our shame that Hollywood is not a marketplace of idea's. (all safe to embrace)
