Or, maybe he won't bother.  After all, her husband didn't really defame her in any way.  He just asked her a simple -- maybe the simplest -- math problem.

Hard, though, to watch this clip and not think: Why are we fighting so hard to save Western Civilization?

I think I'm beginning to understand why $15-per-month birth control pills cost $1000-per-year.

I don't know which one is dumber.  Operating a video camera while driving isn't exactly a sign of brilliance.

I prefer to believe it's real only in the sense that these people understand you can make real money by having a youtube video go viral.

This reminds me of my favorite "Dumb Blonde" joke:

Dumb Blonde: You really think I'm stupid, don't ya?

Boyfriend: Yeah

Dumb Blonde: Well, I know the Capitol city in every state in the union.

Boyfriend: OK, what is the the Capitol of Colorado?

Dumb Blonde: Ya!!! Got ya.... It's Capitol C !!....

I hope it's a hoax. I pray that it's a hoax. But, on the other hand, Barack Obama was duly elected President of the United States, based on his ability to string nice platitudes together in a speech.

The answer to that question: "We" (defined to include most voters,  Western governments, activists, and academics) aren't fighting to save Western Civilization.  Those who are fighting to save Western Civilization are a very small minority.

Obviously a spoof.  If she were that dumb, why would the guy publish the fact to the world.

Then again, he did say they were driving from Logan, UT, which is the home of Utah State University so...anything's possible!

I get the sense she's faking it.  She seems to know too much about the other factors that affect gas mileage and speed.  I have a hard time believing that somebody who truly doesn't understand the problem would be able to relate speed the speed of a car to "revolutions per mile", use the speed of a known object in order to estimate the speed of an unknown object, to discuss "miles per minute" as an intermediate quantity when they were originally talking about miles per hour, to realize the size of your wheels affects your speed in certain calculations, and to know that tire pressure affects the diameter of the tires.

I think she knows too much to be that dumb.  Plus it's not even a metric question!

It seems that some commentators have a hard time believing that some folks have a very hard time with simple math.

Well, let me disabuse you of that notion.

A few months ago a very cute and perky gal that I work with could not add 10 and 14 without pencil and paper.....

That's right.... Without pencil and paper.....

Pencil and paper?  How primitive!  I've got an app on my Android phone that makes short work of that sum.

That's easy!  All you have to do is carry the four and...um.

Have to say that I do wonder what the conversion from the old pounds, shillings and pence to the 'new money,' where there are 100 pennies in a pound, did to the average British kid's ability to do math.  Used to be that converting 12 pennies to the shilling and 20 shillings to the pound was natural when calculating money.  As in:

Pounds     Shillings     Pence

10                   16                 7

5                     12                 9

------------------------------

16                     9                 4  (total)

If you add 10 pounds, 16 shillings, 7 pence to 5 pounds, 12 shillings, 9 pence, you get:

9 pence  + 7 pence = 16 pence, or one shilling 4 pence.  Carry the shilling.

16 shillings + 12 shillings + the carried shilling = 29 shillings.  Carry the ONE pound.

10 pounds + 5 pounds plus the carried pound = 16 pounds.

So, the answer is 16 pounds, 9 shillings and 4 pence.  (I think).

I have to believe that removing these sorts of exercises from kids every day lives didn't do much to improve their math skills.  (And it made counting change so much less challenging, too . . . . )

10 + 14 is 24.

17 + 14 is 2B.

2B or not 2B is true.  If you wanted the bitwise result, it is FF.  I have no idea what that Hamlet guy was moaning on and on about.

Here's what I did the other night.

I was trying to figure out how old the headmaster is.  He said he graduated from the school in 1967.  So I thought, okay, he was 18 then.  So what's 18 plus 67?

I did this out loud.  In front of a complete stranger.

My husband was there and didn't say a word.
