When Times Are Tough, Start A Tribute Band
I know there are more urgent issues to discuss right now but I cannot stress how important it is for you to start a tribute band if you don't feel like growing up just yet. I joined this one already in progress since about 1992. I've been playing with them for 5 years enjoying immensely being at ground zero of one of the biggest musical mysteries of our time. Namely: "Why do so many Latinos love Morrissey and the Smiths?"
It's an eternal question that can never really be answered. The closer you get, the less important it becomes and you forget why you were so worried about it. Just enjoy it. We appeared on the local news here in L.A. this past Monday to talk about the upcoming show at the Orange County Fair this Saturday.
Now that we've established that you are going to start a tribute band. To whom are you paying homage and most importantly, what will you name this outfit?

What's the attraction for Latinos? The Morrissey vibe is macho. He always looks like he can take or leave the adulation. H'e'll give you your money's worth, sure, but what he does tomorrow, who knows? He's a man with options.

My favorite tribute band -- yours aside, of course, Joe -- is the Led Zeppelin tribute band that plays the Abbott Kinney Venice Street Festival every year.
The name?
"Led Zep-Again"

Awesome! I once heard the rumor that Latinos enjoy Morrissey and the Smiths, but I never really believed it till now.
Why the attraction? I've noticed a lot of similarities between Mexican singers and Morrissey. The bravado voice, the over-the-topness, the incorporation of speech in his songs.
I think your band should do to Smiths songs what Manic Hispanic did to punk songs. I can hear the lyrics for "Cholo in a tutu" already.
If I could start any tribute band, I would pay homage to Beach Boys. But only the weird Beach Boys. The name? The Beach Men.

Haha! Excellent.
I love the AC/DC tribute by band "Hayseed Dixie" who hails from "Deer Lick Holler" deep in Appalachia. Bluegrass AC/DC...

Once more confessing my popular culture ignoramus status, this is the first time I have ever heard of The Smiths.
Last year, I heard of The Ramones for the first time when I encountered a story about how Johnny was a rare big rock non-lefty libertarian.
On the current news front, Hitler has marched into the Sudentenland....

I'm still uncertain about the names, but my tribute band would cover both Captain & Tenille and Ratt hits.
My husband has long dreamed of "Def Leotard."
Re: When Times Are Tough, Start A Tribute Band
True about Johnny Ramone. A traditional conservative and a musical genius that literally invented punk rock. Did you hear that? Punk rock was invented by a Republican. That's probably why they keep asking me to host his annual memorial benefit for prostate cancer research.
