When Media Cheerleading Goes Spectacularly Off The Rails
Newsweek has a story out this week headlined
Stop the Panic. It's Not 2008.
The economy isn't as bad as you think. But higher taxes are our best hope.
The article ends up explaining that increasing taxes on those over $250,000 wouldn't do much to dent the deficit so we need higher taxes on everyone. I couldn't help but think of this Newsweek cover from April 2010:
America's Back! Hoo boy. It would be funny if it weren't so very sad. I was going to say that it's a shame that the media isn't held accountable for such spectacularly wrong cheerleading but that's not true. Newsweek's sad existence these days shows that Americans tired of the silliness.

America's back is lying on the treatment table and several orthopedic surgeons are recommending finding a spine to put in it since the current occupant of the White House has his locked in Shania Twain style cross country tour bus mode right now.

Note the upper-right of the cover: "Hate on the Right"!
Good to know they've moved from hate on the right to rage on the right (last week's cover).
They report on the whole spectrum!

You beat me to it Matthew..... I couldn't help but notice that comment. I'm not sure but is that "Hate on the Right" always there as part of the Newsweek tiltle?
If not I'm sure it could or should be because that would be the fair and balanced liberal thing to do along with proving their "civility".

Well I'm at least glad that some one on the left finaly addmits that taxing the evil 250ers isn't going to close the budget gap, and that they have to tax everyone more to do so. I'd love to see that Obama add.
In my mind:
"For too long Americans have had it too good! It is time that people gave back to the government that has given them so much. It is time that all Americans pay their fair share of the American debt. It is time that we all give half our income to the government."

I think it is meant as an imperative, as in get your hate on, maybe they should put it in Latin- to fancy it up.

Higher taxes are our best hope for what? For driving the final nails into the coffin of our Constitutional form of government and our capitalist economic system?

Tina Brown's vision for Newsweek seems to be a cross between the Nation and People magazine. Something like...
"Like what Marx is wearing? Get the look here for less!"

Wow. Is Evan Thomas still at at Newsweek?
Either way, sounds like John Meacham got out while the gettin' was good, and now, Tina Brown continues to steer it towards the abyss.

Is this their new new mantra? Tax the Poor?

Re: When Media Cheerleading Goes Spectacularly Off The Rails
Probably the most [expletive] pathetic, desperate cover for a magazine I've ever witnessed.

I gave these chuckleheads the heave-ho back in '92, when they tried to tell me that Clinton's 43% constituted a "mandate."

Re: When Media Cheerleading Goes Spectacularly Off The Rails
It must explain why Newsweek was sold for a dollar. Why would anybody who is not a pretentious liberal or a commentator on same care to even bother turning that front page? Not only is there the ridiculous lead story, but the top tells you "Democrats Only."
funny too how it is the "Stevens Court".

Re: When Media Cheerleading Goes Spectacularly Off The Rails
We received a mailer recently offering a one-year subscription (51 issues!) to Newsweek for something like $14.95, which works out to 29 cents per issue. If that's all they think their magazine is worth, why in the world should the reading public put any value on it?
