The Atlantic Wire asks the question, “Why is Rahm Emanuel leaving so suddenly?" Writer Max Fisher trots out some theories to attempt to answer the question, but I have a few theories of my own.

  • The other Chicago mayoral candidates are already getting most of the good voter names off area tombstones.
  • He just can’t stand the new Oval Office furniture any longer.
  • He’s tired of hiding sharp objects in preparation for the White House post-election party.
  • He can’t figure out a way to say “no” to Harry Reid’s request that he be listed as a reference on Reid’s résumé.
  • His F-bombs are becoming strangely ineffective at meetings; he needs a new audience.

Of course, there’s always the slight chance he just wants to get out before the November elections.

Rahm only signed on for the fun parts.

Sticking around for the disaster next month won't help his chances in Chicago, so why stay aboard? He's got "White House" on his resume already.

Restraining himself from socking the Vice President has not gotten easier like he expected it would.

Perhaps he wants to get on the bus out of there before he's thrown under it.

Mr. Sajak, as always, your analysis is pplluupperfect. On a slightly different tack, I read the gloating stories about the rats leaving the sinking ship, Rahm, Romer, Summers et. al. ad nauseum and wonder: is that helpful for the conservative cause. Yes, it is hilarious to see all of President Obama's advisers joining the witness protection program. But is it really better for us? Wouldn't any knucklehead chosen at random do a better job for Obama. We all ought to be trying to find a way to trick them into staying. Especially Axelrod and Gibbs.

Barack Obama is pushing him out. He suspects disloyalty.

The loser stink is getting into his pores and it's hard to take more than two showers a day.

Time to get back on home turf and kick some a**, Chicago style!

But seriously, what qualifications does he have to run any city? Are the good people of Chicago going to pull the lever for heartless, cold-blooded reptile like Rahm?

That's just a bit hard to buy.

Rahm wants to be out so he's not tainted with the post November election stink of massive losses. The fact he wants out so quickly means he's likely been tipped off (by Clintonistas perhaps?) that the rout is going to be huge. And, of course, preserves him for a Hillary Clinton administration later.

For those of you that are on Twitter, @MayorEmanuel is pure genius. But warning not a single Tweet would meet the Rico Code of Conduct... not by a country mile...
