Over the weekend, George will insisted that Chris Christie will not not jump into the race for president:

How many times and how many ways does the man have to say "no" before we quit running around in circles in this town because someone purporting to be a journalist purports to have known something?  He has said over and over again that he won't, and he won't.

Yet, something strange is going on in the betting markets.  About a week ago the markets said that there was only an 8% or so chance that Christie would run, now they're saying 35%. The markets say that the chance he'll WIN the Republican is about 13%--whereas a week ago they were saying only about 3%, and a few days ago they were saying about 8%.

Clearly, bettors have learned some new news, or at least they think they have learned some new news.  But if so, I'm befuddled.  I have no idea what it is or where it came from.  Any ideas?  Could some bettor know something that none of us know?

Today's WSJ

"Mr. Christie's aides say the governor hasn't budged from his months-long insistence that he won't enter the presidential fray, despite what one described as a "relentless" stream of calls over the last week from prominent Republicans urging him to run.

"None of that triggers any new thinking on his part," said one Christie adviser. "He's very polite to these people: 'Thank you for calling. That's very flattering. I'll let you know.' And I think they interpret that, 'Ah-ha! A rethinking.' "

Is Christie the Anti-Perry or the Anti-Romney?
By NATE SILVER

"The ideology of governors can sometimes be hard to measure because they do not take roll call votes, as members of Congress do. But a method devised by Adam Bonica, a political scientist at Stanford, would infer that Mr. Christie was quite moderate based on the political orientation of his campaign contributors. Mr. Christie’s ideological score, according to Mr. Bonica’s method, is similar to that of Mr. Romney’s when he was governor of Massachusetts, or Charlie Crist while he was governor of Florida, although somewhat to the right of Christie Whitman when she was governor of New Jersey."
