What Would You Do If You Thought Your Child Killed Someone?
I'm one of those people who didn't realize Casey Anthony was a female, much less that she was on trial or why, until very recently. But I gather that her parents presumed she killed her young child Caylee and yet also were pleased at the verdict this week.
I joked that my own mother would personally lead me to the gallows if she ever thought I did anything to one of my children. I asked her and she confirmed that, in fact, she would cooperate with authorities and personally drag me down to jail if I committed a crime. She viewed it as an act of love and mentioned that she cared more about my eternal salvation than anything else.
My dear in-laws, on the other hand, would probably smuggle their children out of the country to avoid prosecution. Whenever their children have gotten in trouble, they work overtime to help them out of the mess. They also view it as an act of love.
I definitely take after my mother. When my daughter took someone's toy at the park the other day, and the other kids all pointed their fingers at her and called her a thief, I backed them up. I'm not joking.
So what about you? I'm sure your children or other close family members would never do anything wrong, much less kill a poor, defenseless child. But if they did, would you be cooperating with the police and prosecutors or spending all your money on the best defense money could buy?
