Mitt Romney is apparently set to comment on the Supreme Court's ObamaCare ruling within half an hour. If I were him, this would be my statement:

Two years ago, the President of the United States and your representatives in Congress showed unbridled contempt for the sacred liberties of the American people with the passage of ObamaCare. This morning, five justices of the Supreme Court did the same.  Thus, today marks the culmination of one of the most dishonorable eras in American politics -- one in which every single branch of the federal government refused to stand for the rights bequeathed to American citizens by our Constitution and, ultimately, by God himself. But it also marks that era's end. Beginning today, a chorus of voices from outside of Washington is rising to a crescendo -- and our message is as simple as it is clear: our liberty is not for sale, no matter the price. And we're coming to take it back. Washington, consider yourself on notice.

I expect his response this afternoon is one of the most critical moments of the entire campaign.

But he won't. Maybe he'll make the right call and hire Newt to make this announcement for him.

I hope Romney understands that this is not a "distraction" from the economy. :)

I hope you e-mailed that to Romney, Troy. Because, I think you are spot on.

King Prawn: I hope you are wrong sir. I think it would break my spirit if Romney doesn't attack this decision and Obama about this. I think all Republicans now need to start attacking every Democrat in sight with Obamacare.

Thanks to the SC decision, now Romney's campaign will have meaning... have purpose.

Nope, no God references please.  The main focus should be on freedom, stunning partisanship, and reality/affordability.  You can't afford the ACA down there.  You're in pretty big trouble

Troy, if ever we cross paths, the first round is on me.  Beautifully, succinctly stated, sir!

Please, please, please let him give that response!! Troy, we know you have tremendous influence in the Speach Writers Guild....you have to get this done! If Romney man's up and calls them out on this he could suddenly become the "liberty candidate".

Romney MUST appeal to the conservative base in his statement.  He will have an unparalled level of enthusiasm behind him if he plays this right.  If he plays to the middle, this will REALLY demoralize the troops.

Willard cannot say a darned thing without further eroding his credibility and consistency problems.  He'll try to talk about the issue but anyone with a brain will notice that one thing that we'd all like to forget -- as governor of Massachusetts he signed, into law, legislation that at it's core is the very same thing that he'll now attempt to criticize.  Republicans are in a terrible bind on this one.

Very well put, Troy.  What we need now is a principled, thoughtful, articulate leader who can say those words in a way that inspires.  I wish Romney were a more forceful, credible advocate.

C'mon, Mitt.  The team needs you to rise to the challenge.

Well, he's just made his statement. Apart from a nice opening line -- "What the Supreme Court did not do on its last day in session, I will do in my first day in office", it was passionless, wonky (he was in full PowerPoint mode) and stiff. I'm disappointed primarily because he can bring the fire when necessary. But he didn't today. This wasn't a guy you were inspired to rally behind.

"Time for the American people to choose."

He did well.

That pretty much guarantees we'll cross paths.

Only if he is being attacked personally, like gingrich calling him anti-immigrant. I'm sure he'll give a passionate defense on Bain too.

btw, i havent seen romney's response yet.

I didn't get that feeling at all, this time.  Not "inspiring" as such, but how do you turn that button on?  He looked competent, forceful, and crystal-clear.  He needs to give more details on "replace", but not today.

The problem with Romney's response is it is passionless.  Yes, he promised to fight for repeal, but he was in full Romneybot-9000 mode.
