Which quote, do you think, caused a “backlash” and a “controversy,” according to nearly every media outlet? Which quote illustrated for many in the entertainment media the dire need of stars to have handlers around to help them watch what they say?

1. "I smoke a lot of pot when I write music. I'm not gonna, like, sugar coat it for 60 Minutes that, you know, I'm some, like, sober human being, 'cause I'm not … I drink a lot of whiskey and I smoke weed when I write."

-- Lady Gaga to 60 Minutes

2. “I really don’t believe in abortion … It’s like killing a baby?” He was then asked what he thought about abortion in cases of rape and said, “Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don’t know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that.”

-- Justin Bieber to Rolling Stone

It’s 2. Of course.

I’m guessing that half of you folks probably don’t care. But I ask this to those of you who have teenagers: Do they listen to this stuff?

I realize that few tweens and teens are watching 60 Minutes or reading Rolling Stone. But the quotes have been reprinted everywhere on the Internet. Do these words hold any power? What say you parents?

I have observed that, with the exception of Miley Cyrus (whom everyone seems to hate), teen stars who are too clean-cut and wholesome looking and acting seem to invite scorn, even from my kids who are generally pretty conservative in their beliefs and attitudes.  Not sure why.  It's pretty annoying, though.  My 14yo can't stand Taylor Swift, but can't tell me why she can't stand her.

My daughter, 22 years of age, offered this thought on Facebook:

"dear lady gaga, please realize that singing a song entitled 'born this way' while showing off your new prosthetic horn things, in fact is oxymoronical. you were not born that way, for you are not a triceratops."

Maybe because Taylor Swift can't sing worth squat?  Have you ever seen her sing live? Ghastly.  Congratulate your daughter: she knows a fake when she sees one.

Perhaps we should invite Justin to join Ricochet.

Not with my 14 & 19 year old.  My kids don't admire the music of Bieber & Gaga (or Swift) so they're not about to take the next step and be influenced by their politics or mores.

In the past we've talked about artists who can be enjoyed for their music or acting talent, but are complete twits.  They can seperate the artistry from the idiocy.

And I acturally relieved to hear that Gaga is frequently drunk or stoned.  It explains a lot.....

Honestly, as these folk are so far removed from the trevails of real life the rest of  us realise, how can they propose to postulate anything meaningfull...

Try being the father of a rape victim and the consequences therein.

Lofty words are just that, something in the air..See how that works when the boots needed on the ground are the ones you are wearing...

It looks to me like the kid said exactly what you're saying.

Which Canadian are you going to listen to? The under-aged hairball with no talent or the New Hampshire-based Mr. Marshmallow World?

More to the point, given even that his comment made sense and it was done well. I making references to lifes game changing events those that speak to them are so often removed from reality. Hope that helps..

As a member of the Leave It to Bieber fan club, I must also applaud Lady Gaga's strong pro-life message expressed by being transported to the Grammys encased in a giant womb.  And from that embryo, a star was born.

There's a place for pro-life drunkards in this world.  It's called the Catholic church.

Love the caption beneath his picture (in which he is wearing probably the most grown-up clothes in his closet): "Noted pundit Justin Bieber."

Bieber does do a mean Obama impression:

Ah yes, let's turn to the young celebrity skulls full of mush for insightful commentary on the issue of the day - fascinating!

BTW, I was shocked to read that Lady Gaga is a pothead - such a waste of talent!

The Biebster is 16. I cut him some slack. What I found really offensive about that quote was that Rolling Stone chose to transcribe it with a question mark, which was the editors way of treating his comment with scorn. I'm quite sure that all Bieber did was lift the inflection at the end of the sentence like any 16 year-old slightly nervous about what he is saying and seeking approval. The question mark demeans his statement and constitutes an editorial choice that I think mocks him unfairly.

I agree, Frozen Chosen. But are you sure that no tweens/teens care? It is easy for us, I think, to dismiss all their words as nonsense. My question is to parents -- is this totally harmless? Should we ignore it? Or do these words hold any sway over young folk? I genuinely want to know. I remember being totally and utterly devastated when I read somewhere that Duran Duran members did drugs (I know, I know. Duh). But I was genuinely hurt by it. Like, how could I marry Simon Le Bon if he was snorting coke? It mattered to me. I was 12. Do 12 year olds care about words any more? I wonder.

Lady Gaga's most ardent supporters may be irritating (I'll admit that I enjoy some of her music even while being fascinated and horrified by her public persona), but I don't think they are any more (or less) likely to do drugs because of her. Whereas Justin Bieber's followers are devoted to a downright dangerous degree, judging by their latest round of hacking and death-threat-posting. His comments aren't being entirely ignored, the DailyBeast actually referenced them a few times this week, but honestly...there's hardly anyone I *less* want to see helping American teens define their political philosophies.

And I don't care how he feels about abortion, I'm still not sitting through that movie.

Not 100% on-point but the above poll is heartening for pro-lifers, bearing in mind that Ireland in general is moving away from its historic conservatism.Proof perhaps that opposition to abortion is not necessarily religious.

Having no children of my own, I like to think that Bieber is the son I never had, and have written him many letters to that effect.  And was therefore outraged (outraged!) at Red Eye's criticism of some of his insightful commentary.

Have you no shame, Gutfeld?
